Cowboy Bebop EVN TC

Has anyone ever thought of making an EVN TC of Cowboy Bebop? It occured to me about the hypergates and all (If this topic was created please stop me okay?) Coincidently, the background story of the anime somewhat follows a similar path to EVN. Having the Sol emasculated from the rest of the interstellar community with the destruction of a hypergate. Except that the Luna HG destroyed the moon making Earth bite its dust and now it has a ring from the crumbs leftover (Instead of the Kane Band heh) and with Earth kind of dead, the rest of civilization is left uncheck and go rampage on their own ideal of governments and revolutions and stuff like that (I think). When a player creates a new pilot, it would have to have taken place 300 years after the destruction. Let me know what you think k?

Cowboy Bebop TC...that'll be the day. Heh. I imagine that it would be a matter of time, simply, before someone makes something like this.

When I was reading up on the Nova Bible just to see what the Nova engine was capable of I noticed that it says that you can charge a fee for landing on a planet. So is it possible to make a hypergate toll fee? I know in Cowboy Bebop, they did.

The problem with Cowboy Bebop is that lots of stuff that they do are on planets and stations, sure there is the space theme, and there are some neat fights, but that's not all of it.

That's what dëscs are for. Go count the number of times Ory'Hara kicks the crap out of Auroran and Vell-os warriors. 😄

Right. yea.

Don't worry about fights and kicks, remember, there is always the possibility that you can have bounty hunter missions, and while some are just regulars, others could lead to an adventure.

Hmm it also reminds me that if you want anything to happen within the tunnel of a hyperjump, I believe it could be done, it involves a mission of some kind for you to land on the hyperjump gate, and the moment you do, you get a desc dialog box where you write what happens in the hyper tunnel. This of course is a theory.

Or, you could create systems that represent halfway points in the hypergate systems. Just put two wormholes in the system and link the hypergates to them (theoretically, it should work -- I think I'll try it right now). The player should be forced to navigate from one to the other; they'd be far apart within the system.

Such a system, by the way, should have a bright yellow background, and suitable murkiness.

Hmm it's possible, you could have a mission where you have to get the heck out of Dodge before the tunnel collapses, or perhaps you try to rescue a ship stuck in a hyper tunnel, now there's a thought.

I thought that the hypertunnels were blue... I can't remember, it's been at least a year since I watched CB last.

That's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Remember the episode with the ecoterrorists, and the one with the Feng Shui chick?

They are most definitely a bright yellow, unless I somehow became colorblind every time I saw them.

And considering my luck, that is entirely possible.

Well, you're probably right, because I don't remember much of the whole hypertunnel fight, anyway.

Cowboy Bebop would be a tough universe to make an effective TC of. The technical challenges could be overcome; that's not what I'm referring to. The difficulty would come from the writing. Think of how many times you sat back at the end of a CB episode and said, "Wow." How many times was that because of the characterization or the dialogue, the insight into the deeper nature of the characters? (If that doesn't apply to you, take my word that the writing is excellent.) Making a technically effective EV version of the CB universe would be no more difficult than most other ideas for TCs. But to make a truly faithful CB scenario, one that captures the feel of the anime, truly excellent writing would be needed. Difficulty +10.

Just my two Troy ounces.

If you want to get really fancy, you could have Coldstone-made minigames of ground-based encounters, password protected so that you can only access them through missions.

Or you could just use dëscs, as NTiOzymandias suggested.

............. or, you could modify an open-source 3D game engine (the Quake series comes to mind) to read and modify EVN pilot files, such that you can set/clear bits whenever the player beats a level, or something.

Uh, yeah.......

I forget how I registered. I've been away a long time. Anyway as to the Bebop idea.

I think the idea is great, and have some ideas but don't know if they can be done. The first is simply change ship graphics to include the ships from the series, change the background music to more blues/jazz/bebop style midi or wav files. Include something like the bounty hunter plug-ins, and add some mission strings.
that would be a simpler version and it is the universe you can do it your way. Mineing and what not between jobs.

If you want to get more into it you can make it so the missions you get are like, Find Steve- last seen in this system. You go to the system and enter the bar where you are contacted by an informant who tells you where he is, then you get him. Two part missions. Then one of the mission strings leads you to hunt a hacker on a planet and then prove 'his' innocence. Once that is done you add the hackker to your ship outfit (if it's possible make it transferable between ships) and those two part mission become one parters in most cases where the hacker can find them skipping the informant. Make The sword fish and the other small craft purchasable as fighter (like the ability to purchase military craft, so not everybody has one) so you could similate all the time they broke down or got damaged in a fight without perminantly loosing them. Maybe you can find the bebop or a ship like it as a derilict and board her. She would be an average ship but with the adding of a fighter bay for each of the smaller ships, armor and other upgrades it will become better (but the ship was never really top end).

I don't know if it is possible to make the gates similar to planets that you contact one for clearance and then jump. Mid gate stops sound cool but that effectively doubles the systems unless you do it in only a few cases. And since the whole series takes place in the solar system gate go directly to different places like earth and the moon, or all of jupiters moon, but midgates go between orbits (so venus to earth is two or three jumpgates. There are also Dark Gates mention in the Manga (gate that are hidden and offer shortcuts but are controlled by syndicates. These would be cool but would all need to have midgates.

I think the way I'd like to see it done is, set it in the Bebop universe but in the future. The Gates now reach other systems. There are syndicates and dark gates. (Many midgates) Ships from the series. Bounty hunting. and leave the rest to the players. Maybe some sounds from the series (especially edward talking). And maybe a mission string to find the famous bebop (Jet and Faye frozen, spike in stasis and in the hands of the syndicate and what about ED and Ein? Could the crew be brought back together?). Big Shot is back on the air in the form of mission terminals for hunters only.

heck I'd devote a entire mac to this game if I could have this and a few other plugins to switch between.

Catch you later space cowboy
