Plug-ins. How the hell does one go about making one. I already have res-edit and the bible etc., but I cannot figure out how to make one. If someone experenced could give me a rundown of how to make a plug-in I would be most greatfull.
Thanks all.

Thanks all.**
Step one: Open RESedit. In RESedit open the TMPL resources included with the bible. Select the box that says TMPL and hit Control+C (copy) then create a new plug-in. Name it whatever you like. After it's created hit Control+V (paste), then save.
Step two: This is hard for me to explain clearly, but here goes:
I go through the EV data folder opening each file with RESedit till I find one with the recources I need. I copy the entire recource file, paste to my plug-in, then open it and delete all the other parts I dont want to edit.
So if I wanted to edit the shuttle, I would open EV data 1. Then copy the box called ship (2 dots above the i), then paste it to my plug-in file. Then I open the box, and select everything except something named SHUTTLE. Then I select Edit > Clear.
Step three: Now to edit just double click the item. A list of variables will be showing. Check the EV bible to see what they mean. Now just edit it, save by closing that window (when it says "something is not the same as something" click yes, it will pop-up about 4 times), then select FILE > SAVE. Now just put the saved plug-in into your EV plug-ins folder if it's not there.

Thanks for that , but I don't really get what the code means. ie the bible talks about numbers but the code has letters, also I'm not sure what the "fields" are. again please help.
A beginners guide on how to make a plug-in:
Open the folder that ResEDIT is in, and the "Nova Files" folder. Select the files in the Files folder "Nova Data" 1 through 6, then drag them over the ResEDIT program. The program will start up with all the files loaded.
Next, create a new file (File > New).
Then open "templates", which came with the "Official Escape Velocity: Nova Bible".
Select the TMPL recource tree, then copy. Now click on your new plug-in and Paste. Why these recources are needed? Here are two examples why: (url="http://"http://www.jack-cole.com/nova/with.gif")With the TMPL(/url) / (url="http://"http://www.jack-cole.com/nova/without.gif")Without the TMPL(/url)
Go through each of the Nova Data files to find which recourse you are trying to edit or create a new one of (If you are trying to make a ship, find the file with the "ship" recource tree). Then double click on it to open up all the recources inside.
If you want to edit one or more of the recources, select them. When you have selected all the ones you want copy them, then click on your plug-in and paste.
Then double-click on one of the newly copied recources. Edit them to your specifications, then just close the window. An error message will most of the time pop-up saying something does not match and asking if you want to save. Hit Yes. This may pop-up another several times. Now just save and put the plug-in in the Nova plug-ins folder if it is not in there. You have made a plug-in!
Now what if you want to make a new ship, planet, or some other recource without overwriting another one? Here is how:
When you are going to copy a recource to your plug-in, copy the ship(s) that you want to make a variation of, or are closest to your idea. After copying and pasting, select your newly copied recource and go to the Resource menu, then select Get info.
Now change the ID to a un-used one. The easiest and most obvious ID is 1 number above the highest ID. In this picture, instead of making the ID 896, I made it 415. That is acceptable, too. You can also name the recource. To save changes, just close the window.

For starters download Nova Tools, get it from the EVN addons section.
Secondly, do a damn search on the dev board, because there are 1001 topics exactly the same as this, and people are probably getting pretty sick of seeing them everywhere.
And Thirdly, plug-in making isn't something people can teach you through one lousy dev board post, you need to learn yourself, and use the Dev board only for help about little things. Try reading the bible multiple times...

Thank you jack, I think something must be wrong with my resedit because it looks much different so I will be looking to change that.
anyway thanks.

Well I'm emulating a MacOS 8.
I merely suggest you to improve you UBB, JackTheSmack: for UBB end tags use / and not . Here is "a i with two dots": ď (for mac users, alt-u then the i, or any other wowel you want "two dots" on it, for PC users, I don't know). And eventually here is one of your images - already in a post! -removed the image afterward as he understood how to- ------------------ M'enfin! Y'a personne qui parle français ici? Suport the ß! Double click the item you want to edit. A new window will pop-up and this is where you edit the values.
Jack, When I double click on the thing I want to edit ( see step six ) instead of the window in the picture ( with the blanks ) I get a window with meaningless ( to me at least ) lines of code.
In the step six picture it shows the Vell-os daart stats in the template...When I try to duplicate this effect it produces a window complete with blanks to fill in values, but nothing to hint at any relation to the light blaster. This probabally sounds alot like whining but I am really stuck on this.

Hey man, get some experience under your belt before you criticise someone about things. The search feature is underused, and people get sick of answering the same damn questions over and over again. If you're going to get pissy every time someone says "use the search" then you better get used to it.
Mind you, the search is disabled right now, but when it comes back up, use it. Kinda means you had to post this anyway.

Make sure that whatever window your viewing the same file has TMPLs or else it will be jibberish.
The EV Files don't have TMPL files, so when you try to edit them it will show up as jibberish.

I don't fully understand. Could you take pictures of what happens?

Do I get the TMPL files from Nova Tools or someplace else? and how do I use them with the file I want to modify?

Azdara you are absolutely right about this. Being a complete newbie I shouldn't have said this espacially when I don't really know how many times this has been posted.
I was wrong, I appologize
also I did try to search but didn't see how with the searcher not working and all.
Finally, everyhing has clicked. Thanks to Jack the smack I have finally got how to make them and am working on my various plugs all day. anyway after a long run this topic has lived out it's usefullness (for me anyway).

I would say "No problem" but then I realize the time and effort for making the images and explaining it all.
Bookmark the topic, JackTheSmack, for when a similar question is being asked you'll just have to click the "edit" of your post you want to reuse, select all text, copy, "answer" the similar question, and paste, and submit reply.
I did it with one of the (many) times the "where the hell is the Mu'hari (sp?) HQ" question was asked, except that this time, someone did post a pretty much self explanatory image. I've use it once ever since, but I limit myself to Help on the way (I do not longer go to the overcrowded Nova boards).

No, I agree it wasn't just nothing, thanks a mil.
