Who wants another The mrxak Challenge?

Compliments of your friendly neighbourhood manual search feature.

(Damn, I waste too much time)

Without using crons you could use missions with a duration of a day or two. In the onFail field have it randomly pick between two or three missions that move your opponents forward different ammounts. The pers of your opponents would appear in the correct system and pers for judges would also appear to tell you how you're doing. This would require a lot of branching missions however. A 7 day race made of 1 day missions would need 49 or so missions if there were only two possible branches each time.

Newly written in the OnFail Field of Mďsn RID xxx:

Axxx R( R(Sxxx Sxxa) R(Sxxb Sxxc) )

(/B)

Where each of the xx_ represents the appropriate mďsn for the appropriate system.
Axxx is so that the mďsn self terminates, clearing up space for other missions. Otherwise, it might continue to occupy an active mďsn slot. If it randomly selected Sxxx, it might represent a random delay.

You would need one mďsn for every system that a competitor might travel to, multiplied by the number of competitors.

The real description sounds much harder :frown: I think I've spread my checkpoints -way- too far out.. But it doesn't say it has to be random, does it?

But on the difficulty change again, I'm running on six hours of sleep when my mom usually restricts me to 8... 😉

I thought it was impossible to ***** R() operators within other R() operators. I could be wrong, but thats just what I heard.

------------------
Here a slice, there a slice,
everywhere a slice slice.

Nested R( ) Operators work for me. I've never noticed a problem with them before.

------------------

Okay, I've been reading the topic again and now I have a whole new host of questions 😉

1-How close to a perfect course should the other racers be? Mine are determined randomly, within limits, but the limits are weighted towards a perfect or near-perfect course. Random delays also occur, although much less frequently. Is this acceptable?

3-Must it come from the BBS? I already wrote my desc text for the first mission to psych myself through the long coding slog :frown:

2- When you say, "fly through but not land except for refuels only", do you mean that the player gets disqualified if they land, or that you shouldn't have to rely on landing to control the Race?

continues reading What, they only have to be a few systems apart? D***! I've already got them spread all over the galaxy.. going to have to completely revise my flight plans to cut down on the work

P.S. I'll be gone from 8 am tomorrow to 6 pm Thursday, and then busy until school starts, so not too much work on this coming :frown:

... Of course, I could be wrong...

For what I was using them for, problems from a nested R() failure would not have been obvious.

i.e... I spoke too soon.

After what Katana said, I made a small test plug which included the following string:
!bxxa !bxxb !bxxc !bxxd R( R(bxxa bxxb) R(bxxc bxxd) )

... And would get as results:
bxxa
bxxc

or

bxxb
bxxd

Katana, it looks like you were right.

Okay, so before you all assume that since I've disappeared for a while that I won't be doing this, relax. I will be doing this. It won't be for another week or two though.

Please, for the love of Uplink, don't go off topic!!!

I'm in! I like challenges, especially since I'm only good at coding plugs (my graphics? which graphics? I just can't do graphics!)
