New Pilot Background selection?

Ok, what is the function of the 'background' selection my TC is giving me when I start a new pilot? How do I make new backgrounds? How do I get it to go away?

I think it wants you to select a char resource.. if you made multiple ones, you'll have to mark one as the default in ResEdit/whatever. Or, if you want your players to have options about which they're picking, leave it without a default and have them pick a char resource.

So, in short, to get it to go away, mark a char resource as your "default".

Personally I think that multiple char's would be cool. Like one could have a rich family, and follow a corporational storyline as an extra, and the other could be dodgy, and I dunno, gett mixed up with smugglers. Or a military background... you know the score, it'd be pretty cool.

tdc, I got caught up with some stuff, and so I'll have the final gunship model for you sometime this week. OK? 🙂

I don't know if multiple chars would work, though.. Unfortunately, rather than paying attention to their storylines, your average Nova-Joe would pick the rich character and use it to his best advantage :frown:

Oh well.. if it could be set up so that the -only- reason to pick a pilot were for its storyline possibilities, multiple characters would be great. But that probably won't work. sigh

I use an extra char is my major story-line plug Evn : Invasion , the plug will only work if you start a new char and choose EVN : Invasion as your background. It allows me to set some bits that I want to be set and give the player a proper ship and other starting stuff and I can set new intro screens , etc...

There are many advantages to it , just check the chär resource out in novatools or the bible ,you can do a lot of stuff with it actually.

".Trader" is the default char isn't it?

A, that would be sweet. Cause Consturction is really slowing down, I'm not getting mch stuff from all my people...

I always found an issue with this. 1) People always choose the rich player first. 2) The 'rich' player has no money! A couple of addons I downloaded only had 50K. Sad. Anyway...

Is there a way to make a certian coughrich chär resource only availible after something has been done? Say, NCB or a testing of a resource present in a plug-in (think L33T)?

Thanks for your time.

Well, the 'l33t' method is impossible, since that would require engine changes. The first is more interesting.

Obviously, creation of a new pilot file cannot depend on NCB tests, as NCBs are an aspect of an existing pilot file. The one way I can think of to limit the availability of a 'rich' character is to have that character be stored in a separate plug-in, which is compressed and encrypted with a password that is given to the player at some point during the storyline; this is rather like what The Frozen Heart did with a couple of external documents which needed to become available at a certain point during the game.
