[EV] Disappearing Systems

Huh.

Here's a new one.

In order to decrease the overall size of my map, I dump my s˙sts, via ConText, into a spreadsheet and divide all the coordinates by half except for s˙st 128 which has the coords of 0,0. I then run it back through ReStore and copy my new half-sized map back into the appropriate file.

S˙st 128 has disappeared.

The resource still links to other systems. Those systems still link to it. There's no VisBit involved.

Yet, when I run Nova, the links to system 128 are gone. From within system 128, the links themselves appear but the systems they're linked to do not... it's just lines radiating from system 128. Meanwhile, those systems no longer seem to link to system 128.

Copying the original s˙sts from my backup does not to fix it.

I've just lost system 128.

Any thoughts?

It is better to feed the goat than it is today.

Try changing the ID of s˙st 128 to a high number, running Nova, then changing it back again. Another thing you could try is changing the co-ordinates to 1,1 or something. 1 pixel isn't really going to make all that big of a difference, is it?

I did try changing the coordinates, but I haven't tried messing with the ID #s yet. I was also going to just remake the resource, but haven't tried that one yet, either.

OK, I just repeated your half-size experiment (with EV:N 1.0.5) and saw no anomalies (except incorrect placement of nebulae) with the newly created small universe. Here are three things to check for possible problems:

1. Make sure that the recalculated X and Y positions are integers
2. Do a reality check on the text file output from your spreadsheet before running ResStore (just skim through it looking for oddities).
3. Look to see if there's anything in your Nova Plug-ins folder that could be over-writing your half-size s˙st resources.

Also, I think you meant system 130 (Sol), which is the system at (0,0), not system 128 (Kania) which is normally at (160,-20).

(EDIT - Oops. I just noticed that your topic starts with EV, not EVN. Oh well, the 3 possible problems are still relevant anyway.)

Whoops. I thought I did say EVN in the topic.

And no, I mean Sol at 128. I'm working on a TC. No plugins.

Try changing the Resource ID to see if you still have the problem. If you do, delete the resource and remake it (after copying down the values of course).
