Turret beam blind sides

I was trying to make a front quadrant beam weapon and found some things amiss.

the red is where it can fire, grey is blind sides. I made sure there was no X Y Z axis weirdness, its all on the zero. Blind from the sides works just fine. Can anyone go make a blind sided beam and see if these blind sides are consistent?

I've noticed that Nova seems to have a lot of trouble with getting angles correct. If you ever noticed, the direction a ship flys entering hyperspace is not exactly the same as the direction the hyperspace line on the map is. And beams tend to shoot out about 3 or 4 degrees right of the autopilot foward direction of a ship.

Cheat any way you want in almost any mac game. Even Nova.

Rick - the problems you've noted are a direct result of EVN's use of angled view graphics. If you'd like, I can dredge up an old thread or two with the details. Suffice to say I don't like angled graphics in the EV engine.

However, the turret blind spot problems are indeed real, and I've verified the angles you've shown. It is, indeed, bizarre.

your right. that makes sense and explains the hyperspace discrepency, but its still no excuse for foward fireing beams/weapons purposely missing by a bit when you use autopilot.

Accually, I've noticed that I can be flying straight at a ship, guns blazing, and just before I get in range, my turrets all fire backwords. The ship is usually still in front of me, so why the random direction change?
Although I was using normal turrets rather than beam ones, and I don't think they were limited to any quadrents at all.

I believe this is a result of your gunners trying to anticipate where the other ship's (relative) path will lead.

Yeah, but at the time I am nowhere near the ship I want attacked. The guns should fire in the direction of the ship, not oppisite it.

If you're so far away, why are you shooting then? Obviously your gunners are just having fun at that point, since they can't hit the enemy anyway. 😛

Here's a bug I have discovered: front-quadrant cannons (not beams, I haven't seen that bug) occasionally shoot backwards. My explaination: The engine says, "Hmm. The target ship is in the front quadrant of the player's ship. I'll shoot the fixed 200mm railguns. Ok, how far away is the target? How long does it take railguns to shoot that far? Where will the ship be when that time has elapsed, based on its current velocities? Ok, I'll shoot at that spot. *shoots fixed railguns backwards * Drawing explosions..."
