Has anyone messed around with planet-type ships, and if so, has anyone gotten planet-type ships with planet-type weapons to actually attack spöbs? I can't seem to get it to work.

You had a typo in that short of a post? Sheesh.
Anyway, I haven't had a chance to mess around with it, but you need to make sure that the stellar it's shooting at is destroyable (and that they're hostile towards each other).

That's what I thought -- and I even made the gövt of the Planet Ship that was to attack the spöb Xenophobic -- but it just floats around the system -- refusing to leave, but not attacking anything, either. I also can't get normal ships with planet-type weapons to attack spöbs, either.

AH! I remember now! The ship has to be created by a mission as a special ship, with the behavior of "attack spöbs" (or in similar phrasing). I knew there had to be something I was forgetting.

They're really a way to make death-star type vessels. They can't be destroyed except by special weapons.
And what kind of special weapons are these? Planet type weapons? BTW do planet type ships attack other ships, too?

Only if they have regular weapons to do it with!
The original intention for planet-type ships was to have special missions where you have to "bomb" a base/factory/installation on a planet using some kind of special bomb. That's why there are mission resource options for "start on top of planet" for ships, and why ships can be made immobile. Unfortunately it was never used by the Nova scenario, but I've always wanted to see it done.

AI ships will attack enemy planet-type ships when able. AI ships will only attack actual planets if they are part of a mission. mcb
