Comparison Mechanisto and 3ds max

I am without my laptop (iBook in to fix cd-rom drive) so I am unable to make this comparison. My PC has 3ds Max on it and the iBook has Mechanisto(as well as a couple other 3d programs). I am looking at a how-to book for 3ds and I am seeing similarities.

Has anyone else notice, or are there just common features that most 3d modelling programs have.

Well, there are many basics that are similar. The differences are usually in the degree that a program can perform and how many of the features it has.

3Ds Max is a fairly high end program that lots of people turn excellent stuff out of. Mechanisto is good as far as it goes, but it just doesn't have some of the capabilities that higher end programs have.
