Well, my writer is no more. I had been having difficulty reaching him, and he has finally responded that he will not be able to use the computer except for school related activities for some time. So I am in need of a new writer. The only thing I will be getting from him is the intro text, and that will likely need some touch-ups.
I would not be posting this, except that I am nearing the point where I need descs. I have the galaxy mapped and governments assigned (although I still need to set allies and enemies.) Ships are planned along with weapon systems and outfits, but all on paper. None have specific values yet since that will take a lot of testing and time, something that will have to wait until my schedule clears up a little. I even have some of the story missions created, but without descs I don't want to do too much of that programming because I will likely need to change those around.
I very much do not want to give too much away or built up suspense, since both have a tendency to contribute to vaporware. But I will give a little and if you like what you see, you can email me and ask for more.
Some info first: I am fairly busy, and the timetable for this plug has a early 2004 release date. I will be travelling most of the summer, so it has until mid-May to get most of it done and then will be on hold until August.
Now for plug-details:
It is set in the time right after hyperdrive technology is discovered. The people of Earth begin to flee their polluted world. The nations of Earth struggle against eachother for the best worlds, and some band together to fund their flight so as to not be left behind. You take an active role in the colonization and exploration due to lucky circumstance mostly.
There will be three chars, and some interesting twists and turns. It is a darker plot, although it certainly has light spots and possibly glowing conclusions. Of course, you could also end up drifting through the void for eternity as the human race collapses under the weight of its own fetid waste and corruption.
Most of the storylines are mapped out, and only need a writer's touch to bring them alive. I have the inhabited systems identified, but no spob descs written. If someone becomes committed to helping, I will let them in on everything story related that is planned, and would be willing to compromise on the story a little if I liked changes proposed by the writer. There is corruption, politics, betrayal, loss, suffering, glory.
It is a small team, since large groups become too dependent on other people and can never decide anything. I do the programming, I have an artist who is quite skilled but wishes to remain unnamed, and then the writer. Hopefully, with your help, this plug will be quite great. I have been wanting a plug like this for years. Even if it takes a good deal of time to finish correctly, it will be finished.

I guess all of that writing may seem daunting to one writer. I guess I would be willing to have a max of two, although I would prefer one dedicated writer. If two, one would do all of mission text to give consistency of style and feel, and the other would be short desc text, like spobs, ships, weaps, and outfs.
I'll try to get you some good details tomorrow if I can find the time. Tuesdays-Thursdays are really the only days I seem to have a glimmer of free time, and Tuesday's are often busy.

School is almost over (4 days!) and then I shoiuld be free to do just about anything for two weeks. But you probably won't be able to contact me during those two weeks (holidays), but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be able to help, I would be glad to help with stroyline gaps (if any) the possible touch ups to Intro text and anything else, I would be happy to help. reply here or at email address.

Unfortunately, I do not think we could possibly have the storylines to that stage by then. I will also most likely be doing most of the touch-up work to help keep everything in line. I have a good deal of experience with editing, but I lack the creative flourishes necessary to keep a reader's attention in a work of fiction. Thanks for the offer though.

I have already started a TC with pretty much that same storyline, Russell. Russians, Chinese and Europeans fight over a vast uninhabited galaxy which you have to explore and colonise.
However, since it was only groundwork, plus I never expected to finish it anyway, I'll dismantle my own TC and let you carry on.
Plus, since the projects are similar, I may decide to send you a few ideas/help with programming from time to time.

Well, both Starkiller and Strange have signed onto the project, so I think I am good for writers. I'll let everyone know if it looks like I need another, but they both seem to be fairly reliable, so the odds are against it.
pistgavin: I have most of the plug threshed out, and part of it programmed, but I would be happy to listen to any ideas you toss my way. It doesn't mean they'll get used of course, but if they are, you'll get credited.

I'd be interested in helping, though I really don't know how much time I'd have to do the work/ if I'd be able to continue working. I've got this thing about Polycon, even though the graphics were great and there was so much room for backgroud; the descs ruined the whole thing. I've been playing Polycon recently, and that bugs me more than anything else. If I were to do the work, I'd need such things as graphics, general ability of the thing I'm describing, governments and backgrounds etc. I usually prefer to write descs for my stuff for just that reason. I know everything in my head, and how it should be, but I never get up the inertia to finish. I don't know everything you're wanting, though.
On another note, some jerk keeps turning my computer's key repeat off.
