Here, do you like this logo for my EV Addons Site?

Honestly, no. Not really. It's too big, the white (clouds, fog?) just seems weird. I don't really care for the font. And the semi-3D effect doesn't show up well enough. It's kinda hard to tell the angle of the text and such. I will say though that it's a good concept and with a little more tweaking it could look great.
Anyway, you asked. Just giving you an honest critique. And after all, it is only my opinion

No offense or anything, but it's terrible...
Too big, the font doesn't look good, and the clouds look too blocky.
The transperancy is good though....
Just make it about a quater of the size, give it a new font, loose the 3d look, maybe have it slightly beveled, but seriously...

The best place for graphics advice is the EV Image Gallery. Check the board drop bar at the bottom of the page to get there.
And unless you just intend that site for hosting your own plugs, I must ask what the point is. Almost all addons are availablve from the ambrosiasw addons page, and there is no way you could hope to compete.

An artifacted 100KB JPEG with a background that adds nothing, ugly transparent green bad-3D text, and no hint on the image about what the site it is representing does. Yeah, I love it.

I'm sorry, but it's not very functional. You can barely read the title. If you are going to design something like this, you have to take into consideration as to why you are using elements in this design, why choose this particular color, etc. In other words, practically explain why you use this for your design for a particular purpose.
Stay focus to using elements that have alot more relevent to your contents. Doing so will help to send a more clear message, whether personal or business.

Yike. I don't know what the rest of you were talking about, but all I see is a flamey thing with 3D letters.
EVWeb, it still isn't very interesting to me. The flames are partially obscuring the letters, which looks bad. Flames on a title are annoying to me. It smacks of inexperience. Personally, I like webpages that, while they look good, aren't excessive. Beautiful simplicity is the road to heaven, young grasshopper.
Okay... I go to the site, and the banner isn't even sized correctly, so it's all stretched and pixellated. Not only that, but you have this really orange thing on a page that's predominantly green and black! The graphic designer in me slaps you upside the head!
As a couple of people have mentioned, I don't understand what orange flames have to do with your site. That image never again shows up in your siten so I'm wondering what the point of having it was. Not only that, but you have a link to Evula.com on your first page, which to me is one of those porn warnings: "If you aren't 18, then you shouldn't be here. Get out quick!" You should put it in your (empty) links page!
I've probably been a bit harsh, so if you've been offended, or made upsed, I apologize, but unfortunately, your webpage really gives a bad impression on people if it isn't designed at least decently.

Three cheers for minimalism!

He changed it

It for the logo, not the background, but apart from that I agree completely..

Couldnt have said it better myself. Its one of the principals I built my site on

This is because the old banner was not only bigger, but green and black. EVWeb, Im guessing you used a web creator program like dreamweaver for making the site since it has defined image sizes when its not necessary. Try and learn to code web pages by hand. I just learned the basics of XHTML (with CSS stylsheets) and its very easy - not to mention useful! The w3c has lots of tutorials as well as a validator to check your code.

A bit harsh? Maybe, but all your points have been valid. EVWeb, take this onboard when you update your site next

loose the flames....
you cannot read anything!
Three slaps for this design!
Aahhh, serif fonts. Hurray!
Well, I guess then I will go with my original, idea, anyway I was just trying out Carrara 2.
oof... That doesn't work for me either. I'd give a suggestion, but I'm kinda creatively burnt out right now.
Ok, open your enter page in SimpleText. Look for the image tag that comtains the title of the image. It looks like this (CODE}img src="EVWebTitle.jpg" title="" alt="" style="width: 800px; height: 195px;"> (/CODE)
Replace it with this: (CODE}img src="EVWebTitle.jpg" title="EV Web Logo" alt="EV Web"> (/CODE)
This will mean that when you change the size of the image it doesnt look screwy when you open your page in a browser.
Please tell me you didnt code that by hand. It is some of the ugliest coding I have EVER seen. :shudder:

NO!!! Don't take out the image size attributes! Taking these out increases loading time. Just make sure the values you enter are the actual size of the image. Don't change the size of the image by changing these numbers. If the image is the wrong size then edit the image itself. But remove the style element. Images don't need styles. These should only be applied to text.
img src="EVWebTitle.jpg" alt="EVWeb logo" width="800px" height="195px"
That's how you want it.

Im only going by what the w3c says... if you put in size attributes it isnt valid (for xhtml anyway, and xhtml is the way to go these days). Putting stuff like that in goes against what HTML was designed for. HTML was only supposed to be a way of laying out what you want on screen. How it is desplayed is supposed to be handled separately in style sheets.
Also, the load time variance would be minimal.
Hey, I changed it to a better, simple design, so take a look.

I believe that that was true for 1.0 generation browsers; I find it hard to believe that the same would still hold true.
However, I do agree that the CSS elements in the images aren't necessary; whats really funny is that it causes NS to completely ignore the links that the images have.

Aren't you guys a little off subject? I wanted to know about the picture, not how to program in HTML. Oh, and EVula, have you read your email?

Yes, I have; have you read the evula.org news forum?
