Does checking this flag enable some kind of 7th AI in the game? I ask because I had it set on two ships I have been trying to balance, and they acted like complete pansy pacifists. I had them set up to be members of mortal enemy governments, one of which is xenophobic, and they 1. ignored eachother and 2. ignored me, and tried to run away when I attacked.
I was scratching my head, and kept reviewing my government settings, making damn sure they were enemies, turning off their planetary settings, etc, before realization dawned. I checked that flag because I figured capital warships aught to spend some time target shooting on asteroids, that it would look cool. Are there any other hidden AI's I should know about, besides the documented 6? I heard a rumor somewhere on this board about a "Death Star/Doom Ship" something AI- any truth in it?

Another side effect of the Asteroid Mining flag is that if a ship has that checked in a system with no asteroids (or has no weapons) and there are multiple spöbs in the system, it will go back and forth between two systems. If you set it to be an Interceptor, it'll pretty much cruise all over the system, planet to planet, ship to ship.

Exactly. Or, in my plug's case, those little transport pods and workbees from Star Trek: TMP.

I guess what you could do is to make an asterroid ship that has no turn, uses the asteroid graphics and an asteroid govt which is an enemy of the ones you want to attack it. That is, if you want a workaround just an idea
