Sound formats

I'm curious about how to convert various sound formats (AIFF, QT, ect.) into ResEdit format. Is there a program that can do something like this?

It's very self-explainatory, though the effects of conversion are still a little mysterious to me.

Yeah, uh. You should know that the 'ResEdit' format is the Mac .snd format.
You can just make a .snd file and copy the 'snd' resource within it to your plug. Make sure it's 11.127kHz, if I remember correctly.

ResEdit itself can. Make sure it's at 11.127kHz, mono, and 16 bit sound.

Correction on that .snd thing... the actually resource four character identifier string (read 'type') is "snd ". Note the space at the end; it's essential.

Andrew M, ResEdit can't convert AIFF or QT to "snd ".

pipeline, it works for me, at least with QT. Oh! You don't use ResEdit! RESORCERER can't.

I still use ResEdit. I just recognise that Resourceror doesn't suck.

What kind of QT files do you meddle with? What format is the data?

Codec is programmer shorthand for compressor/decompressor. Some examples of codecs for sound might be: IMA, QDesign Music, Qualcomm PureVoice, MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3).

I was referring to the suffix, not the resource. I.e., the file name. Nitpicking is fairly pointless. If he'd converted a QT or AIFF or whatever file into a snd file and had had a look in it with ResEdit he'd have seen the right resource. Wouldn't you agree?

An interesting thing I found out some years ago (when I was still actually working on my plg...) is that the opening music doesn't have to be in 11.127kHz...

Obviously a strange dialect of English called "computer", I actually don't understand it's many subdialects.

Well, this particular subdialect is called "resaudio" and only applies to mac users. It is very closely related to "quickaudio" and, less so, to "resourcediting".
