Trentent Tye's Ships

Does anyone out there have a copy of the now-defunct Star Trek Escape Velocity plugin or Trentent Tye's meshs that he released to the public on his .mac website that now doesn't exist? Or maybe Trentent's email address? Or is this Trentent that is reading this post at this very moment?

I'm dabbling in 3D modeling at the moment and would like it if I could use Trentent's (your??) meshs to learn from.

Thanks πŸ™‚

I e-mailed him some time ago to see if he would contribute his meshes to my project, and he told me that if they still existed he didn't have easy access to them. Try going to (url="http://"http://www.beyond.net.au/devil/sta/index.htm")Star Trek Australia.com(/url) for a stack of really nice meshes in a variety of formats.

That site is very cool, but what program do you use to view/edit them? I tried opening one up in Strata3D 3.0.2 (a 3DS model), but it came out all pixelated and not textured!

I'd also like to say that I can't wait for your StarFleet Adventures plug! I've wanted to play a Star Trek plug for a long time and even got involved in the STEV project, but it became evident after it stalling several times that it wasn't going anywhere :frown:...but your's looks very good so far :).

I'm(we actually )are also working on a Star Trek TC for nova. The project has only just started , but we are determined to do a good job. The plug will be a TGN-era one. More info in my signature

Yes, uncle twitchy's plug looks very promising , I can't wait to play it myself πŸ™‚
Try practicing on all sorts of meshes. Other spaceships, and perhaps some misc. objects.
Go "shopping" in a search engine. Your bound to find some intersting things to practice with. Also try creating some things from scratsh , If you (somehow πŸ˜‰ ) like it , save it. You can then perhaps open it later and brush it up when your skills have improved.

Hope this helps , πŸ™‚

I'm also using Strata3D 3.0.2 and using their .3ds models and then texturing them myself. Since the original models were built in 3DMax or Lightwave on a Windows machine and converted to the .3ds format, some of the models require some work (like the translation will center all the pieces). For the most part, I've been pretty lucky. I've also used bits and pieces of their models and kitbashed some of my own ships (that's how I was able to come up with a passible Klingon D-5 Raptor from "Enterprise" for my plug, and my Excelsior model was made from pieces of their Leavenworth and Curry models, for instance).

Googling "Star Trek .3ds mesh" also brings up a lot of other sites with other folks' fine works as well. I fully intend to give credit where its due to all the excellent 3d modellers whose talents I'm exploiting to create my plug.

Thanks. I can't wait for it, either.

I'm very close to finishing up all the ship graphics and I recently picked up the semi-canon Star Charts book to help with the map-making. All the spΓΆbs from the Star Trek Encyclopedia -- well, those from the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, anyway -- are done, so once I have the systems lain out I'll have something to put in them, and I just finished up reworking all my populating dΓΌde resources, so when the map's done I'll be able to fly around and encounter everything non-mission related. I'm quite pleased with the progress.

There's a lot more detail on the links in my sig, but you knew that already.

Back atcha, buddy -- I'm looking forward to playing yours as well -- it'll mean I won't have to do a TNG-era version of mine! <grin>

I have the old Star Trek EVO plug-in, but all the graphics are rendered in 256 colors, which isn't very good for EV Nova.

Freaky, I did a search on "Trentent" on google and this post came up! πŸ˜„

Here I am. I'm in school though, one of those accelerated courses which will give a MCSE (yeah yeah yeah, sell out, whatever brings home the bacon), CCNA, CNA, A+ (already got that though), Network+, etc. Yeah, sorry I haven't been able to get back to you, I've been extremely busy with my personal life and school isn't helping much.

If it makes you feel any better, my little brother is looking for the STEVO models because he's trying to put a portfolio together (he actually made most of the models), he's found a couple on the several hundred burnt disc's that we have, if you have an email I'll send them to you. My current email is trententtye (at) hotmail.com

My little brother (unlike I, which is where I falter I guess) does everything by the eye. He's a real artist (one of his drawings went National this year and is hanging in a museum in Ottawa) so everything looks perfect and to scale. Me on the other hand, I gotta blueprint it out, have specs, etc. etc. etc.

I guess in being an artist he does great textures too πŸ˜‰

But again, if Troy says yes, I'll send them your way!

But in the mean time, I found this (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=763")site that looks really promising for a STEVN plugin(/url).

I've got a (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/shipyard/")shipyard(/url) that will, when I get back on my feet as far as the website goes, have a section dedicated to ship models; if you'd like for your ships to have a permanent home, email them to me and I'll toss them up in a temporary directory for people to access before I make an actual page for them.

Unfortunately, my email provider won't let me send anything bigger than 2Mb, but I made some Apple .Mac homepages where you can download all the models that we've found. There are 38 in total thus far. You can download them here:
(url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/startrekev1/FileSharing1.html")http://homepage.mac....leSharing1.html(/url) (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/startrekev2/FileSharing1.html")http://homepage.mac....leSharing1.html(/url) (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/startrekev3/FileSharing1.html")http://homepage.mac....leSharing1.html(/url)

All in all, it's about 54MB total for the ships stuffed (.sit), and about 70MB unstuffed. The models we really worked on are pretty easy to spot. I went through them and checked to make sure that they were ok, but some models got munged converting from StrataVision 4.0 -> Strata StudioPro 2.5.3, (most notably the Jemhadar vessels) so I left them in there original format.

Unfortunatley, come 60 days, these models will come down, so if someone (EVula suggested he may) could host these, they are now public domain till they are lost.

If Troy or I find more models, we'll let you know and post them here.

As FYI StrataStudio Pro 2.5.3 models should work in Strata3dbase 3.0, assuming we didn't use any of the special powermodules (I went through them all and removed any I found, but that's no guarntee they'll open under the free version).

Any Strata3d pro version should open them.

Good luck making STEVO/STEVN/STEV plugins!

Wow, who saw this thread comming back to life...

I have kinda drifted away from Nova the last several months. I know I'll eventually get back into it, I always seem to, but my current obsession(sp?) is Unreal Torunament mods (well playing them anyway :)).

I feel kinda like I've gone to the dark side, but I've also been doing a lot of research in preparation to build a PC...I'd like a mac, but I can't really afford the mac I want. So I'll just have to deal with a PC for a while, just until I become a filty rich computer programmer :).
