NovaTools/ResEdit installation troubles

When I tried to copy the NovaTools stuff into the ResEdit prefs, it "damaged the file beyond repair", so I trashed the preferences file, and restarted ResEdit to make a new prefs file. This time, I couldn't even open the preferences file. I downloaded and reinstalled ResEdit again, but it didn't help.

Is there any way out of this?

How very odd. I have absolutely no idea what the problem could be. What system are you running?

Have you tried the ResEdit Copy trick?

If not, do this: Make a copy of the ResEdit application, and make sure it has a different name. (In OS 9, applications' preferences are stored according to their owners' names, so each copy will have its own preferences file.) Give the second copy about 20 megs of RAM and use it to copy the NovaTools resources into the "ResEdit Preferences" file.

If you already did that and it still won't work, then no force on Earth can help you.

thanks, I'll try that.

I'm running OSX btw, so ResEdit is in 9.2

In the Finder, select the application. Hit Command-I or alternately control-click and select "Get Info" from the menu that pops up. Find the "Memory" tab of the Get Info window that opens. There should be three boxes, two of which you can change. Bump up the ones you can change to 20MB (20000k) for each.
