I need to learn how to make Nova sprites - every tutorial I've looked at doesn't shed any light on how to create and impliment the banking and engine glows.

Thanks. At this stage, I think it would be a bit too hard to change the width of the front section, as it would mean recalculating all the angles for the detail I added on the side, and that was the longest part of making the ship (aside from making the textures. I was thinking about making a tutorial on it for Strata 3D that could be easilly adapted for Infini-D or any other 3D app. That may be useful to you inb some way.

To address the size problem other people brought up -- I'd suggest redoing the black thing in front. It looks like a cockpit window, rather than a bridge or control cabin, which is probably what makes it looks small. I'd suggest moving it up some and making it a thinner, horizontal rectangle with a pair of supports so it'd looks somewhat like this:

Hopefully that showed up okay. But that's just my suggestion.

That sounds a really cool idea actually, I will gile implementing that a go!

They are highly manouverable with good speed. Anyway its not going to be up to me. This graphic is going to be part of my shipyard. What people call it in the game isnt up to me. However, I will remove the separation feature, and instead I shall make the heavy fighter out of the front design (heavilly modified though). Does that sound fair?

Could you just change the name instead and still have it able to separate? I am very interested in this feature and would like to see a separateable ship as soon as possible. I understand Bryce's concern, but please do not remove this feature!

Also, what is the weapons compliment of this ship:

Looks REALLY good, but try to add more detail to the viewport in front. It looks more like a hole than a window. And how does it look with a wider wingspan?

I would actually have to read up on making the splitting ship first so it wont be happening with this ship. However, I will put this function into use on its big brother the destroyer. As for the weapons compliment of that ship, it has 4 (insert name) cannons. Its main asset is its speed and manouverability.

Thanks. As said above, I will be adding more to the bridge area. As for how it looks woth a wider wing span: slow, and weird. Not at all right.

<sorry for dragging up this old topic but its mine, so I dont care :p>

Well I finally got my iDisk working, and in the meantime I have managed to complete my Corvette, along with another ship, not bad cocidering I only got my computer last week. Take a look or go to (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum56/HTML/001227.html")my post on the image gallery(/url):

Also, there are pics of parts of the ship.

And finally here is a pic of it spinning - only a preview:

Also, I made this little fighter while I tried to figure out why my iDisk wouldnt work:

Basically, I found some parts of a ship I had started modelling, and decided, "What the hell, I'll finish it!". So there it is. I intend to post it again in a nice scene, but I cant be bothered making it right now.

While I've done all that, I have also been adding some of my own bits to Skyfox's ESR Frigate (See (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum56/HTML/001169.html")here(/url). Skyfox, if you dont want me to post this, please just say and I will remove the links.

All modelled in Strata 3D and Meshwork.

So what do you all think?

That corvette looks so much better now! When do we get to have the full graphics? That is 🆒

------------------
Eww! Troll bogies!
Let the fun begin!

I really wish I could model like that. :frown:
Anyway, that is really pretty neat, and I like the blue fighter. If you are wanting to make it split, can't you just make it have an escape pod shaped like the front part?
Where is your shipyard?

Thanks. The fighter wont split, only larger ships should split.

Its not up yet, im still waiting for EVula to get back to me on the webspace front. I do have a .mac account and you can see the preview for the site (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/ewanc/ewanc/")here(/url).

What are you using for the reflectivity on the rest of the corvette. I can see the guns and other parts of the ship being reflected in the armor. But there is also a lot other reflection being cast there. I'm guessing you have applied a reflectivity map or something akin to it to give the armor more of a reflective metal feel.

Try putting on a different armor texture. Make a rough armor that looks something like Vonian armor. The bump map is easy to build. Just go into Photoshop, make a white backround. Got to Filters > Noise and select add noise. Make random monochrome noise. It should create a grainy effect. (this effect is good for quick and dirty sand and graned metal too). Now go to Filters > Blur > Motion Blur. Create a motion blur with a setting of about 25 at a 90 degree angle. This should create an interesting lined effect with more defined edges. Use a crop tool to cut off the edges and then use that as your bump map. It makes good rough Vonian armor. (granted that Vonian armor is really just a color texture, not a bump map.)

Hope that helps,

I would like to know about the reflections too. Although the Vonian armor is a cool idea, I don't think it would improve the ship at all. Although the process to make the armor is pretty good. I tried it, it works wonders.
