Is it possible to have a point defense weapon that will shoot at fighters at the range of a railgun?

Yeah. It might not have the accuracy you want unless it's very fast, but it should work.

Then I must have something set wrong... I have the Count field set to 600 and the speed field set to 1000 but the weapon still only shoots at things on screen...
I think the point defence will only shoot at things you can see, being point defece. You can make the shots go as far as you want, but the weapon has a mind of it's own.

Hmm. Try it with a beam. That worked for me. It could mess up your screen though.
