The ionisation value which can be set in the weap resource only seems to vary how long the ionisation occours, rather than how severley the vessel is ionised. By this I mean, is there any way to make a weapon which paralises its prey?

The effect of ionisation is a combination of the amount of ionisation the weapon delivers, the ship's ionisation tolerance, and how quickly the ship is set to deionise. Ionisation will never completely immobilise a ship, but it will decrease its acceleration and turn speed.

If you want to completely disable a ship, use a weapon that disables-only and goes through shields. Of course, this could be considered a cheat.
