Well, my first choice would be lightwave. Lightwave is a damn good 3D program. However, its costly, and takes a while to learn. If your a student, lightwave costs about 900$. Otherwise its around ... 2,700$

I would suggest usuing theese programs (the top being the one I respect highly)

Lightwave
CD4
Specular Infini-D
POV-Ray
Specular Logomotion
Mechanisto

With (url="http://"http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~cweisige/stuff/Mechanisto.sit")Mechanisto(/url) you can make some pretty cool stuff, AND its free. Check out the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum;=EV+Image+Gallery&number;=56&DaysPrune;=20&LastLogin;=")image Gallery (/url) for more pictures involving different programs. Also, (url="http://"http://www.journeyed.com") JourneyEd(/url) is a great site to find discounts on basically all types of computer software. I got lightwave from them.
Note: JourneyEd will only give discounts if you can proove your a student.

$2,700? Lightwave retail I think is $1300 US, and $400 US at (url="http://"http://www.journeyed.com")www.journeyed.com(/url).

Actually, $1,595 retail in the US (from NewTek's site).

hmm. Strange. They must have dropped the prices... because when I went to newtek's site about 2 months ago, they were selling it for 2,735$ US.

Prices change.

Could have been a version with lots of plugins or whatever. Kinda like Maya Complete (or whatever the $15,000 version is called).

it doesnt cost that much, you can get it for free if you want to...

Strata 3Dplus is good, pro is better. I've found you can make anything in Strata 3D that you can make in Mechanisto & some things you can't in Mechanisto. Go to (url="http://"http://www.strata.com")www.strata.com(/url) to check it out. Can't remember the current prices, I think plus is around 200 or 300 US$, around 800 US$ for pro.

Even before you invest money, try a free program like Mechanisto to get a feel for 3D graphics.

what_is_the_matrix: Maya Complete isn't $15k, they lowered the prices a couple months ago, but I've never seen it over $10k.

Get a life, a cyberspace life.

Newtek did dramatically slash its prices just recently... A few months ago as I remember.
Joe

Edit: Unlimited also cost about $15,000. It was the price cut for unlimited and complete that caused many other 3D animation programs t dramatically slash prices.

Unfortunately, the only ones I can think of that are free, are strata, and mechanisto. And I dont think that they are distributing strata free anymore... ask jager - he recently got strata.

That's illegal, my friend, and if you try to profit off pirated software, you might get in trouble.

Talking about religion like that is VERY dangerous. Don't do it.

Has anyone here ever used Pixels3d? - Ive heard its quite good once you get to grips with its interface. Also considering its modeling tools, its cost is astonishingly cheap compared to the otehr 'flagship' 3d apps out there....

The heart goes streight from sugar to coffee.

I have the free release version of 3.7 (i think, i also believe 4 is the current version). I have never used it, it is just sitting on some 3d graphics magaziene CD somewhere, if intrested, Ill try to e-mail it out or post it on the web for a while. I really dont know its capabilities though.

Ahem I believe (url="http://"http://www.squibix.net/mech-ev/")this(/url) is the correct url for Mechanisto; do a (url="http://"http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q;=mechanisto")Google search(/url) and see what you come up with! 😄 😄 😄 😉

There's also another good tutorial site (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/tycho61uk/index.html")here(/url).

Yes I have Strata 3D 3.0.2. If you want it I can send it out to you. But there are for segments and its 21MB total. Which will kill my modem.... But I will do it if you want. There are many things you can do in strata. And Infini-D is just as good. i've played with lightwave. and this is all I can say WOW!!! ME WANTS ME WANTS. but common i dont have that kind of cash just lying around in big piles.... So here is my sugestion. Get Strata 3.0.2 Off of me. Play with it for several months. Then decide if you want to continue. if the answer is yes then look into the ones that cost cash. Jesses I will even through in a guid that i'm making for strata.. It covers how to make basic things..
