See (url="http://"http://members.aol.com/tom27981/systematic/")here(/url) for screenshots of my upcoming random galaxy generation tool for EVN, 'Systematic'.
It is in early days, but I would love to hear what everyone thinks, and any ideas anyone may have.
For a little more info, see (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum26/HTML/001809.html#")this thread(/url) on the EVN board.
Tell me what you think, all ideas are welcome.

Q: What exactly is it? I don't know much about plug-in developing.

It creates a whole galaxy map using governments you have set up. You have to set up your general option for the map, but then it can bang out as many as you want. Well.. when it is finsihed. But it is for EVN.
Can you include importing from Gliese 3 data files? They contain data for many stars (including name and location), and it would be nice if your program would take that and make an accurate 2d star map and randomly place the rest of the stuff based on whatever you have now. Do you really want this feature??
'Systematic' is more for random maps. But I will look into writing a small utility that converts Gliese files, if everyone would find it useful??
Importing Gliese files would be incredibly cool.

Very cool. I had thought about trying to make something like this. I wanted it to make an entire universe based only on drake equation values, but got bogged down with other projects and details (for example, how large can the largest alien enpire be? I'd have to be based on their biology. I then spent three months coming up with psychological models based on biology types. Sigh).

Seant, did you ever do any more work on your import/export utilities?
I definitely, definitely am still looking for something that would export all EV/O/N resources into tab delimited files and subsequently reimport them. In fact, if someone wrote one of those, I would write a killer database driven open source plug development tool which would cut development time even more drastically than DrRalph's extremely good tools.
This may sound like an idle boast, but if someone did the export import stuff, I could be up and running quite quickly.

Dr. Ralph's tools do that.

I'm on an extended tour of the US right now (writing from a friends computer), but when I get back, I could look into doing that, after I put the final touches on the pilot file editor.
After almost a year of silence on this thread, Tom, what ever became of the random galaxy tool? Was it ever finished, abandoned, put on hold? Inquiring developers looking for such a tool want to know, what happened to such a promising program?

Wow, this is the first time I've seen a topic digged up for the -right- reason. Congrats.
And I'd like to second that request for more info; it does look kinda cool.

Just me trying to keep this from getting buried again, unless TomWoozle's busy/away/ignoring/lost interest in his great idea. Has the average developer any idea how tedious it is to place and link systems, not to mention naming them all and linking planets to them?(unless you're doing a SW or ST TC.) Granted, there are tools to place systs, but for the possibly several hundreds of systs in your typical TC, that would take days, maybe weeks, simply for that task alone, and of the few apps released, most currently are still limited in ability and still in active development. This RGT could be exactly what we are looking for. Mods, before you slap me for what ammounts to spamming, I just trying to save an obviously good idea from slipping back into obscurity. At least it would mean someone's still looking.
So is it for EV/EVO or is it for all versions of Escape Velocity? I noticed that it was using EV governments.

This is indeed a very interesting program. I am at the very begining of a Nova TC (attempt? :frown: )and am finding creating systems to be one of the most agrivating aspects. That and trying to get new graphics... . Anyways the abilty to import the names of real stars also sound very intersting.
This is indeed a program that can not be allowed to slip away.
Yes, congrats to the bringer-upper, pgarcia01, for finding this gem. It has been discussed on the Nova Board as well recently, but I know of no answer from TomWoozle. I guess we keep begging until he notices.
