i just got a copy of infini-d, and i was wondering if there's any comprehensive beginners tutorials, preferably written by someone on these boards...
i've already created a small, very basic ship design, but the more advanced options are unknown to me.
oh yeah, and could someone also point me towards a site that has lots of cool textures, or better yet, photoshop tutorials on how to make them?
------------------
There have been many topics about that program here. While I personally can't help you (as I don't use that program), I suggest that always you use the "search" button before you post a topic.
I've written a tutorial on how to get the animations and picts from a model in Infini-D. You can download it from (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evo&category;=guides&display;=date&file;=Shipbuilders_Guide.sit.hqx")this link(/url). I hope to update it soon with more detail, as well as stuff on texturing and making custom shapes.
As for textures, you can get a lot of them from meowx's site, in (url="http://"http://www.modenstudios.com/texturevault/")the texture vault(/url), which also has a tutorial on making them (though I can't make head or tail of it...). Saber Studios used to have a texture library, but the site is down now. It'll probably be back up on (url="http://"http://www.evula.com")www.evula.com(/url) soon.

well, divals, the reason i got infini-d was because i found your guide
however, some of the things are unclear to me... for example, how to get the camera properly aligned for spinning the ship...
and the actual modelling is what i'm more interested in at the moment... as suggested by our unregistered alien emporer, i'll also do a search
If you mean how to move it around, it's just like any other object. The part with aligning is in there... what, exactly, do you mean?
never mind, i'm figuring it out.
i'm using infini-d 4.5 and your tuto is for an older version, it appears.
either way, i'm using your techniques, but making certain variations, which are quite helpful (such as multiple cameras)
i just finished a spin of a heavy bomber that really sucks (it's a very simple design, not even as good as the original ev models, i may say...), but i think that some help with textures would be good... i read the meowx blurb, but i haven't tried anything yet.
i'm still figuring out a lot.
damn 3d graphics are more addictive than ev  i'm off to bed!
Multiple cameras? How are you doing it with multiple cameras?
Where'd you get ID 4.5? I've been looking for that forever!
When I get ID 4.5, I'll update the Guide to work with it (after I learn how to use it anyway...)
If you want the exact camera angle just like they did for EVO, there is a download in either the guide or umm the whatchmacallit section of the download, though it contains most of the original models of spobs and ships, they also contain most of the pics as well as a template for camera angle shots.

multiple cameras... umm, i guess it's a featre of 4.5... you add them like new objects in the toolbar...
i'll be honest with you, i'm using a downloaded copy of infini-d, but seeing as the only reason i have it is because i could get it free, and i wouldn't have bought it otherwise, it's not like the company is losing any money...

yes, i've been using those files, very useful.
i'll upload my model to my idisk and post it on the image board for you all to critique
Where'd you get it, if i may ask? (it's not like they're losing money by me downloading it, it's unsupported and the company's dead...)
how about we talk about that on email...
i suppose you don't have icq?
anyway, email me
3D modelling is indeed the most addictive thing I ever got involved in... sure put EV-playing to shame.
Version 4.5 (only version I've ever used) apparently did have a lot of cool new features, such as particle effects, multiple cameras, better animation capabilities etc. If you can ever find an update, grab it. 4.5 still has a few modelling bugs, but its good sides make up for it, and you can find ways around them. (url="http://"http://saberstudios.evula.net/3dimages/CargomasterExtraViews.jpg")Infini-D rocks(/url) (takes opportunity to yet again promote favorite graphic :D).
I'll try to get the (url="http://"http://saberstudios.evula.net/infinid/index.html")Infini-D Warehouse(/url) running soon. I need to collect some files first and decide on a final website layout first.

Some company now owns the rights to Infini-D, and they came across rather nasty when Squinky e-mailed them regarding the subject (or so I hear). The current owner of Infini-D doesn't seem as though they're going to do anything with the software, so I'm hoping another company buys the source code and improves on it.
Skyblade, Eovia has the Infini-D code now and they use it as the basis for Carrara(they just released Carrara 2 a couple weeks ago) So Infini-D is still in use and being updated. I'd say it's very unlikely that Infini-D will be sold off for quite a while-Eovia appears to be doing very well.
------------------ I just realised...I hate huge signatures and I have one myself- DOH!
the version of infini-d that i have is by **** creations... so if they don't own the copyrights anymore, then it's perfectly legitimate to posess, for free, a copy of their software... right?
anyway, how do i make complex objects?

No. All copyrights relating to Infini-D were transferred to Eovia according to M etaCreation's website.
yeah, well... what can you do, eh?

I've known Carrara was based on the Infini-D engine, but I absolutely hate the program (a little too buggy for my taste, and way too different). I still believe Infini-D 4.5 is a better program then the latest release of Carrara...
i've been trying to replicate the original EV ship textures... it seems that matt made them all basically the same, except for the alien ships, so any idea's on how i could get those textures?
