Hey...anyone remember the old BBS game, "Tradewars?" It was a fly around and buy and sell stuff, avoid pirates, build an empire type multiplayer game. My point: Tradewars had a cute little flag when you passed a system where you had a mission - so as you were preparing to just cruise right by, it would beep at you.
Why can't Nova do the same? Just some subtle signal to say, "Hello, you should stop at this system." It would save a lot of back and forth map work. Yes, I know you can bring up a "jump map" with H, but its not the same.
Just an idea.

Because that wouldn't be any fun. Besides, the map already has a flag that tells you where to go. All you do is hold down the shift button in the map when you select your jump route. It's simple stuff. The missions that don't give a flag are usually the ones where you're supposed to hunt down a pirate, or whatever. And half the fun of those missions are the hunting.

If implemented, it should be set to only appear when a "flag" is present. I personally rarelly overjump a destination, but it is fairly easy.

You think they're fun. I hate random, pointless, interminable wandering to find someone who stole a $2 object.

Well what's the point of having something say "Here's where you should be!" when you're supposed to be hunting down a pirate that's near such-and-such system? It's rarely "random, pointless, interminable wandering" if it says "near such-and-such." In fact, if they give you a vague area, it's almost always (with the exception of a few string missions) within one jump of that system. It's not random wandering.

They aren't exactly taking feature requests anyway.

But if you wanted to do that, you'd have to create new systems for each missions, and give it a string like "here's where you want to be." and then replace it for each mission. It'd be a lot of work.
I have no problem using flagged missions in EVN, and the "hunting down" unflagged ones are fun, and I wouldn't change that. However, I do sometimes overjump, or forget to stop somewhere and do something. In the old BBS Tradewars game, you could actually program it to do some automated tasks, like, jump through these 3 systems, land, unload your cargo or whatever, continue to X systems, unload, buy stuff, etc. If EVN could be made even slightly programmable, it would cut out a lot of the boring stuff. Of course, if pirates happen to attack you while your ship is on an automated run, and you're in the bathroom meditating, or making a PBJ sandwich, too bad for you....
