ResEdit OS X equivalent

I currently use OS X, and seeing how ResEdit is not carbonized/coacoa-ized, starting it up in classic is quite a pain. I tried Resorcerer, but I can't seem to get it to use templates (however I'm not the greatest with programs like these : ). So, what is a program similar to ResEdit that would allow me to work on a Plug-In I'm currently making?

As of right now the only OS X editor is Resourcerer. There's also some third party carbonized programs out there. Such as (url="http://"http://www.btinternet.com/~nickshanks/resknife/")ResKnife(/url) which was (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/001887.html")reported(/url) to have NovaTools in it when the next beta version was released. And also there's (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/upcoming/")EVONE(/url) from Arios SoftWare being developed. Oh and also, (url="http://"http://www.illenberger-berlin.de/fearonni/macresourcedog.html")MacResourceDog(/url) which last I heard was in Alpha testing. But, from what I've heard there isn't a free fully functioning ResEdit like program out there yet.

As for the the templates in Resourcerer, simply copy and paste the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=guides&display;=date&file;=bible_and_tmpls.sit.bin")templates(/url) into the plug-ing you want to work in.

Ah, simple enough. Thank you the14thGriffin. 🙂

But isn't the deal behind no ResEdit in OSX is that OSX doesn't use the Mac OS9-standard file/resource fork system?

That is one of the reasons why there's no carbonized ResEdit available for OS X. But, I had heard that Apple's support of ResEdit had ended sometime around the introduction of OS 8.5. Mac OS 8.5 introduced some new things that Apple was unwilling to make the editors for them inside of ResEdit. Which froze ResEdit where it was at and with the introduction of OS X ended ResEdit completely.

Some things have changed, but ResEdit running in Classic mode, especially with a few add-on utilities, is still quite valuable under Mac OS X.

Oh, and Stud Beefpile, you didn't say what game you're working with, but if it's Escape Velocity or EV Override, you may find (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/mc.php")MissionComputer(/url) useful, as it can run natively under Mac OS X.

What's even easier is putting the templates in their own file and putting the file in the folder called 'Private Templates' in the Resorcerer folder. Then the templates apply to all files opened by Resorcerer.
