Interesting Times A TC Plug-In Idea for Escape Velocity:Override
It is three centuries in the future. With the advent of hyperspace travel at the end of the 21st century, mankind set out to explore the stars around him and colonize the planets surrounding such stellars. He did not meet any aliens and unknown evilsl rather, he took his own evils with him. Eventually a good portion of the planets in Earth's sector of the galaxy were colonized. Most planets had their own, independant governments, while some systems gahtered together to form small interstellar nations, while other inhabited planets were wholly owned by corporations. Overall, there existed a balance of power in the human-occupied universe; no planet, system or interstellar nation had the strength nor the will to domniate the others.
The Levo Empire changed all that.
For reasons even the most reknowned histroains cannot fathom, a man named "Thalius" took complete control of the government of Levo, transforming the small, backwater world into the capital of sprawling, multi-system empire that encompassed all the core worlds and quickly becamwe the greatest power in known space. Even Earth fell under Thalius' grasp. Over time, some coutnries, groups, and peoples- the Kindgom of Sirgil, the Giuld of Mercenaries, and Spica Shipyards, to name a few- were able to prevent the Levo Empire fron conquering their systems, containing the Empire's expansion. But that only what they could do- contain it. There was, it seemed, no way to defeatthe Levo Empire.
Then came the Ides of June.
On June 14th, 2280, Thalius' top admirals, fed up with their emperor's megalomania, staged a coup against him. As their ships defeated warfleet lyoal to the emperor, the admirals then took the control of the planet and forced Thalius to hide to flee to the nearby Levo Station. This station the insurgent forces took with ease. In a scene that would be etched in the annals of history forever, a insurgent marine mandaged to corner Thalius and shoot him when a something near Thalius seemed to explode. When the smoke cleared, Thalius was gone.
The Levo Empire was dead.
Having sezied cotnrol of the government, the admirals quickly released all political prisoners and moved the government capital to Earth, the homeworld of humanity. Each planet took a referendum on political loyalties. Levo and a few other planets, chose to become indepedant planets. The rest- the vast majority of Levo's conquered worlds- chose to remain in the former Levo Empire, which was now called the Terran Republic.
ver the years the Terran Republic stabilized. The admirals who led the Ides of June proved to be a rare specimen in history in that instead of seizing power for themselves, the retired and set up a federal republic. The Terran Republic was morally, socially, and politically convervative, nevertheless its citizens enjoyed freedom and speech and most people living uner Terran rule were content with their government.
But not all.
A small, but vocal, minority began to feel that, depite the fact that they enjoyed more freedoms under the Terran Rrpublic than they did under the Levo Empire. the Republic had not gone far enough. Sure, a Terran citizen could criticize the government, practice any religion he chose, live wherever he wanted, practice what legitimate business he could and so on, but there were some freedoms, these people blieve, that were unjustly denied them. Freedoms of the body. Freedoms of alternative experiences. Freedoms of lifestyle. So they decided to act.
Meeting on Beeblebroz in 2095, they wanted to get what they wanted, they needed a gvoernment to do it.
Thus the Insurgent Liberation Alliance (ILA) was born.
Purchasing and ypdating warships from the old Imperial Levo fleet, the ILA revolted agaisnt the Terran Republic. Some worlds were willing, others were made willing, but eventually the ILA convinced the northern sector of the Terran Republic to revolt ahainst the conservative Earth government and join them in their cause-
The destruction of the Terran Republic.
Into this maelstrom you are thrown. Having graduated spaceflight school, you earn enough credits to buy a shuttle craft and find toyrself on the planet which was prominent just a few years ago- Levo. Will you join with the Terrans, side with the ILA, or go some other way altogether? The choice s up to you, captian.
May God be with you.
Main governments:
Terran Republic- A federal republic encompassing most of the worlds surrounding the Sol system. Capital: Earth. Socially, morall,y and politically conservative, it is the successor to the tyrannical Levo Empire. It is currently at war (so to speak) with the Insurgent Liberation Alliance. It ships (for now) include the Terran Gunboat, Destoryer, Cruiser, and Phoenix. It is on good terms with the Royal Kingdom of Sirgil.
Insurgent Liberation Alliance- A revoltuionary government, more a rebellion, encompassing the upper-left hand corner of the galaxy. Capital: Galactica, Satori. Just what kinds of governemnt rules ILA worlds is a quandary. Although the ILA ostensibly supports democracy, in fact the ILA has no civilian "government" brnach and thus ILA worlds are basically run under military rile. Due to ideology and the fact that the ILA is foremost concerned with the destruction of the Terran Republic, the military does not interefere much, if at all, with local affairs and a lassiez-faire attitude prevails in both the economic and social spheres. Mroals are lax and economic greed is unchecked. The ILA's vessels of war - the Frigate, Cruiser, Intercepor, and Assault Carrier - are all refitted warships from the old Imperial Levan Navy.
Royal Kingdom of Sirgil- A constitutional monarchy to the east of the Terran Republic. Capial: Sirgil III. Center of government" Sirgil Station. This small, 4-system kingdom gained recognition during the Perpetual War with Levo (as most people like to call the Imperial Levan days) as constantly thwarting Levan conquest of their systems. The government, like that of the USA and Great Britain, is divided into three brances; the judicial - the courts, the legislative - the Sirigil Parliament, and tje executive- a hereditary king with limited powers. There are three main types of vessels in the Royal Sirgilian Navy - the Sirgil Destroyer, Cruiser, and Fighter. The Royal Kingdom of Sirgil is neutral in the Terran-ILA war.
Guild of Mercenaries-* An association of mercenaries, based on Sauron. During the days of the Levo Empire, the Guild was famous for lending out its services to independant planets under attack by Levan forces. Today, the guild is mostly hired out by independant pplanets in defending said planets from pirates or launch pre-emptive attacks against pirates. Needless to say, the pirates and the Mercenaries hate each other. The Guild may have its own ships, or it may use "regular" ships, or modfied "regualr" ships, or a combiation of all three.
Spica Shipping and Shipyards, Inc.- A major corporation. Location: Spica. Both the planet of Spica and the orbiting Spica Station are wholly owned by this company. During the times of the LEvo Empire Spica remained an anomly, as it reamined independant of Imperial ruel when its location dictated that it be a key planet of Thalius regime. The reason for this is the Battle of Spica, in which Spica security forces soundly defeared an invadning Levo force. A courageous, breathtaking battle - at least according to the official Spica press rleeases. In reality, Spica S&S; bribed Levo not to annex it, and in return Levo sent an "invasion fleet" manned by unexpereinced POWs into Spica which was, in turn, soundly defeated by Spican vessels. This "defeat" justified the Empire's failure to acquire the Spica system.
I am using the classic EV unvierse as my "starting point" in making this TC. There are several reason for this - there are already balanced ships, a semi-real galaxy is there, etc. The vast majority of graphics, however, I have acquired via the Internet and plugins in which the author allows you to take graphics. To date, I have written no new missionsd, though I definitely will write at least two seprate missions strings, one for the Terran Republic, and one for the ILA. I will aso do "introductory" missions" for the Guild and Spica Shipyards, and other "normal" missions for those two respective governments (i.e. pirate huning and planet-defending for the Guild, cargo deliveries for Spica.)
I eventually hope to release the plugin for EV:Override. As for Nova, I'm not sure- the grahpcis probably will not be up to par w/Nova's, it would cost a lot of money to pay someone to "update" them to Nova, Still, it is a TC, and Nova is not out of the question.
So what do you think? Any questions? Comments? Want to sign up for beta-testing? Post them here!
God bless,

Sounds pretty good. It sounds well developed, and well thought out. The only slight problem that I can see is that it seems that after this whole revolution and revolution, the galaxy seems to be in the same place it was for the original EV, but that may have been your choice. I'm also interested in beta testing. While I'd volunteer to help, I've been extremely busy lately, and it doesn't appear to be letting up. I think that the problem might have stemmed from taking on too many projects at once ;).

It sounds like a good idea, but I am really at a loss to figure out exactly how the ILA managed to get many followers - they sound completely unreasonable and are rebelling against a popular government. It sounds equivalent to a small group of crazy fascists or something deciding they don't like the US Government and somehow taking control of the whole of the west coast :).

Awesome idea. Even though it sounds a bit typical for a sci-fi background (big government vs rebels and includes a couple minor groups), your story is still quite good. However, I do have one suggestion. I find it a little hard to believe that so far out in the future, "kingdoms" still exist. As technology progress, people should be more knowledgable. As people become more knowledgable, they should be better aware of their rights and pretty much everything else. The basic idea of a "kingdom" is that the ruler of the kingdom was somehow chosen or direct descent of god or gods and he/she has absolute power. Modern day United Kingdom and Japan have a royal figurehead but they are completely powerless in governing. As for your description for the Royal Kingdom of Sirgil, it seems like the king still has powers, that seems a bit unreasonable. Unless somehow humans "devolved" and started believing that a god really exists.

Excellent concept. Somewhat derivative, but 100% originality is very difficult. Looks very good at this point.
The difficult part is going to be the execution of this concept: creating all the resources you need to make an actual working, playable, plug. The "background" resources - govt, ship, spob, syst, weap, etc., will be relatively simple, just a lot of work - but the heart of the plug, missions, will be tough.
I look forward to seeing the final product.

I tried making my own mission plugs for Nova but with no success (figured everything out except for the "bits" stuff...) anyway... However, I believe I am quite creative when it comes to mission stories so if you need help with that, feel free to ask me.
Sounds good. Remarkable paralells between my plug though. It also uses the old EV universe (plus a couple hundred more systems). Although mine contains aliens, civil wars, and secret alliances. Double agents and triple agents. The mission writing is fun. Lots of bits. I'm going to be writing kibbles and bits!

There are a lot of plugs using the original EV universe.
