More than 6 escorts?

Is there a plug-in out for Nova or being built for Nova that allows more than 6 escorts? Is it possible? Sorry, but my very small amount of knowledge in the field of making plug-ins hampers me from answering the second question. 😄

It is possible. Create a mission that gives you whatever escorts you want, and then never complete that mission. That would give you any amount of escorts up to the max ships in system set limit. Of course, it would get complicated if you wanted to change escorts.

You could use fighter bays as well to add to the escort count. can recall them if your trading or selling the main escorts.

Yea, I suppose that Rak's answer would work. However, there's the annoying problem that the "neverending mission" would always appear in the mission status window, and eventually, unless the player knew what was going on, would start to panic after a while since the mission wouldn't end.

EV Nova supports invisible missions. 🙂

To add to the mission idea, you could have a string of them that allowed you to change the ships that you have via bits... for example, you've got 6 Starbridge escorts (from the invisible mission), and you get a dialogue in a bar that says something along the lines of "you meet a gentleman in the bar who is willing to do escort work. You've been thinking about ditching <name>, since his Starbridge is beginning to fall apart, and <new guy name>'s Mod Starbridge E is quite nice..."; onAccept, the mission with the Mod Starbridge escort is started while one of the other escorts goes bye-bye, while onRefuse nothing changes. It would be kinda difficult to do, but quite possible.

That's cool.

I actually implemented this in EVO. I called it "FleetBuilder Engine" for my plugin-that-
never-ends. The way it works: Have missions availiable on Mission Computer that allow
escorts, and have them end after either mission time limit, landing on origional stellar,
or aborts...

In fact, Pale for EV had this feature; after you beat the plug, then a mission would
appear at a certain station that would give you 4 fighter escorts. It would end whenever
you aborted it...

You could do the same in EVN.

WS

------------------

Let the mission be a random go to order to an uninhabited stellar, then if you want to ditch it you can fly there and ket the little ones run free...

(note to self, stop drinking)

Beware of monkeys bearing pins,

Coz the grenade is never far behind

Make the mission take away a certain amount of cash at start.
Have the mission last only so long so you can't scam the system by "hiring" escorts for longer than you actually pay for (realistically).
Offer in bar. "Hey, <PN>, need an escort? I own a shiptype and need some work."
Have mission run invisibly.

I'd make this, but that would take more time than I have in the next few weeks, but somebody else should definately take a shot at it.

Actually, I've thought of an interesting way of making you pay by the day...

Yeah, EV Nova opens up these possibilities quite well.

I do remember though, I believe the first plug-in to incorporate this was that one by Jason Meltzer for EV that gave you 2 Rapier escorts after dominating planets...

Mike Lee (Firebird)

Or, what I would do is set up and outf with modtype {nothing} and in the onpurchase field begin a mission that grants you an escort of that type. In the onsell field, abort the mission. That way you by whatever escorts you want, and then sell em when you get bored with them.

but if you abort the mission, wouldn't the escorts dissapear when you jumped into another system? (I'm also assuming this applies to EVO as well)

Well, yes... that is the idea. If you have the escorts mission end after you land on some
random planet, then if you have to visit that planet, you lose your escorts.
But if the mission has no definite Travel or Return destination, then your escorts stay
with you indefinitely. When you want to get rid of your escorts, you abort the mission.

WS

Oh duh, what the hell was I thinking? For some reason I was thinking that you were talking about auto-abort settings. Sorry, ma bad.

Actually, to come to think of it, I see at least two ways of paying by the day (one is better than the other though).

If you wanted, you could make some card that allowed multiple missions(an outfit) and have that explain the system. Then, you could have the escort missions available in a mission computer with never-endingness and invisibility (by the way, how would you make that work? I thought invisible missions were compleately invisible, like you couldn't accept them or deny them.) and charge a reasonable price for the escorts. You would have to pay for the escort card origionaly, and you could make that very expencive.

I suppose you would have the mission that the player accepts be auto-aborting, and then have it trigger the invisible mission.

Just be sure not to head off to any ideas about charging price for escorts in some weird way that would eventually make someone post a reply saying that all you have to do is just click the "Hire Escort" button and then later kick yourself.
