Would it be possible to somehow make a missile fire, start fairly slowly, and increace speed to the target?

If you're talking about an unguided weapon then yes, set the type to Freeflight Rocket. But, if you're talking about a guided weapon, then I don't think there's a way of doing it, and certainly not in EVClassic or EVO, but I assume you are talking about Nova.

Submuntions, you can make something like a 3 stage guided missile. every stage going a bit faster.

That would work - there's just one problem: the AI calculates range of a weapon based only on the first stage - which is why you never have to worry too hard about Polaris multitorps, b/c if you're close enough for them to be fired at you, you're probably dead anyway. Hopefully 1.0.1 will allow us to either specify a max range, or specify the number of submunitions to count for range, or something; but for now only flak type submunition weaponry is feasible for AI use (well, actually, there are a few other things I came up with... be creative...) Of course, if the player is going to be the only one using the weapon anyway...
