What machine are you using?

As to the name of the editor: EV-ONE is a nice name. Who cares, really, what the letters actually stand for? If I had devised an editor, I would have named it 'Levo.' 🙂

Was it 75%? It messed up ALL of mine... It was so confusing that I had an easier time on ResEdit. I mean, it required that it reads the data files of whatever EV it was editing, and gave you problems when you did that. It did weird things to the files that I edited, so I killed it.

Thank god, a graphical stellar object and system editor, and thank god, something that runs in OS X.

When EVONE gets farther along, there will be extensive beta testing, and I will be looking for a number of beta testors.

Thanks for the info. In light of that, if EV-ONE actually worked correctly and had useful tools, would it be satisfactory to make it shareware? This is what I am leaning towards.

For a quick update on it (the progress log will be updated when there is more to report), EV-ONE can now recursively search the entire folder hierarchy by name, res id or res type and Find, Find Next, Replace and Find Next, Replace Selection and Replace All. The last one to implement is Find All, and the results of which will be displayed in a Search Results window.

As long as it's decently priced, (no more than $10) bug-free, (It doesn't screw up your plugs like another editor we all know 🙂 ) and makes plug making noticably easier than using NovaTools, then I guess you could release it as shareware. Of course, we'd all be much happier if it was freeware. 😄

As a note, If you release as shareware, NovaBurst will remain as a free alternative. But I doubt it will have the features. (BTW despite it's name, NovaBurst will support all EV versions.)

Yes, if I was at the user end of this program, I would much rather have it for free as well. However, this announcement alone (with minor assistance from the recently released update to Histogram Carbon II, my other program, which was listed on VersionTracker) has managed to put my website over its bandwidth limitation, and I need a way of paying for an upgrade. I am quite aware that NovaTools will remain a free alternative, but NovaTools does not run natively in OS X, does not have graphical editors, and is not what I would consider a "smart" editor (it does not currently do extensive error checking or validation).

There are many ResEdit replacements that do have OS X support, and I believe the next version of one is going to have built-in NovaTools support.

If you do make it shareware try not to make it incredibly restricted. With a program with this much depth people need to be able to experiment with it for as long as they want without any major handicaps. After all, how can they decide whether or not EV-ONE makes bug free plug-ins without first making several trial plug-ins.

1. It will be cool if it works.
2. An X-only version will indeed suck.
3. Good luck.

I forgot to mention...

If it's carbonized, it will be doubly practical. But I note that plugin development is a lot easier in os9, as ResEdit X is... well, there isn't one. Plus, the other EV games are not carbonized, so...oh well. It would just make infinitely more sense to have it carbon/ os9 only.

It appears that the consensus is that it needs to run in OS 9 too and thus, I have started getting it to work in 9. This screenshot of the early results should please some of you:
