I casually put in an alias to ResEdit where I need it most: the Nova Files folder. I go in with no pilot, and what do I find? No message reading "No Pilot File Loaded." Curious,I start a new pilot, and the pilot creation dialog? that sprite that warns what Strict Play is is replaced by a sprite reading..."ResEdit 2.1.3"
Is Nova following the alias and reading the resources of the ResEdit program itself and considering it a data file, ripe for the loading? Or is Nova already reaching a midlife crisis and trying to reinvent itself? Curiouser and Curiouser...

That is very strange. I've never put anything (except folders) inside the Nova Files folder, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Try taking the alias out, and it will probably go back to normal. I guess Nova reads every file it finds in that particular folder. Actually, a debuglog.txt might show you what's going on...

Correct.
I knew the alias being there was to blame straight off, but it got me thinking: ResEdit is not a plugin, it doesnt carry the type/creator codes of any file even related to nova, yet it is read and loaded as a datafile. Leaving it in the Plugin folder has no effect, so Im guessing it is sensible to ignore non-plugins from that folder, but it seems to read every file in the Nova Files folder, regardless of type/creator code. It cant be duplicated in EV or EVO, since they dont carry their files in a nested folder, so there would have been no need for the program to load a specific folder. EVN seems to be more flexible, datafile-wise, than its siblings.

It will only load the resource fork of whatever you put in. I can only imagine what you replace the ship sprites with...
