You can't edit planets yet but you soon will.
Feedback on this thread would be appreciated

Woah.. all the text is really funky looking (random colours and transparencies) in OS X. I'm sure that's just a carbonization problem, though, the actual thing seems to work fine. Although.. a fairly major request... could you please make it so that if it doesn't find the Nova Data files, it keeps going? Otherwise it's no good for editing TC plugins, which are Good Things. Possible workaround: create empty copies of them?

Actually A TC plugin needs to incorperate the original Data as in , if you don't wan't it in your plugin you need to replace it with nil data.
However, After reading your post I realized that the program wasn't checking the plugin for data besides s˙sts. Well now it does. Thanks for reminding me.

That's a good point, although I'd like the option to edit it as if it were a blank slate and then just make all the null resources at once later.. but it's your program, after all.

I was thinking about adding a command to blank the universe by setting all the systems super high X/y values and no links. Then having the program automatically replace these blanks when you create a new system instead of creating a new ID# for it.

My guess is that ThorPrime used REALbasic 3.5.0, which has an incompatibility causing this problem to occur in Mac OS X 10.1 and above. The free upgrade to 3.5.1/3.5.2 or the paid upgrade to 4.0 should fix this.

Very nice work with Novamap I look forward to seeing what else you can add. The blank is a good idea I think...

As it stands currently, a nicely laid out program, simple and effective. Well done.
The ability to work on total conversions would be particularly welcome, though. Some kind of blank system (personally, I think visbits/ncb tests would be better than superhigh values, which might cause unforseen problems, but that's just me) and an ability to work from scratch would be most useful.
Another handy ability would be moving systems with the mouse, rather than by x and y coordinates. I'm not sure how much coding would be involved, but it would be very useful.
Incidentally, David Arthur, I like your scan-pic generator. It cuts down production time to a fraction of what was needed before... and has options for the Beyond-Nova display types...

Thanks, that's exactly what it's meant to do. I find that I can sometimes even use it for graphical effects in things completely unrelated to EV Nova.

HAAAALELUYAH! HAAALELUYAH! Thank GOD! I was going CRAZY without a graphical syst editor!

Yes, I had this same problem when using 3.5.0... colors were all funky in OSX. The upgrade fixed the problem. ThorPrime, you could fix the colors real easy just by recompiling the app with 3.5.2... just a friendly suggestion.

Having finally got my plugin working with NovaMap (I had a bug in one of my s˙sts which crashed it), I've noticed a couple of other bugs/feature requests I thought I should report: The popup list of planets displays the Nova names whether they have been overriden or not The lack of a way to zoom makes it very hard to see the overall relations of Things to Other Things It'd be nice if selecting a planet in the popup list jumped to it...
moving systems with the mouse instead of X and Y coordinates would be nice...
oh, and I need some help... I cant really understand the spöb editor... how the hell do you add new planets and stuff like that?
oh, and godlike app!! thanx man... now I can do that "thing" south of the kontik system...
satanic smile
you will soon see a plugin made by me... trust that

The Spöb editor is not working yet.
ah... then I will just make the s˙sts...
Yuck! This app looks terrible under 10.1.3! The multicolor bug is atrocious. I agree, it must have been made with REALbasic 3.5.0 or lower. Also, the user interface doesn't look well thought-out, and I can't figure out how to really do much. I guess it's a good thing that I'm working on my own graphical systems editor. And I'm using REALbasic 4 to do it. Much nicer. Oh, and if you are interested in seeing the current incarnation of my program, simply click (link=http://nent.sb.org/Files/NovaMapViewerOSX.sit)here(/link) for Carbon and (link=http://nent.sb.org/Files/NovaMapViewerPPC.sit)here(/link) for Classic. I call this version 0.5d1, although I guess it should really be called 0.1d1. It doesn't let you do any editing , per se, yet, but it does let you view a map and see the current coordinates of the mouse (which could be useful for placing systems with a resource editor). More features, such as actually editing the sytems, are in progress.
Oh, and mine doesn't depend on the availability of any Nova Data files. You simply drag the plugin or data file (well, data file 2 is the only relevant one) onto the window, or use the Open menuitem, and it will display the map. The map is draggable, too, instead of using silly scrollbars. And no multicolored text bug.
Grrr! I'm used ot a different style of UBB. Those links should be (url="http://"http://nent.sb.org/Files/NovaMapViewerOSX.sit")Carbon(/url) and (url="http://"http://nent.sb.org/Files/NovaMapViewerPPC.sit")Classic(/url).

How can't you figure out how to do stuff. Just change the text in text fields or use the popup menus to select different things. It's all labeled and edits.
I have recompiled in 3.5.2 to fix that multi-color thing but whats weird is I could never duplicate it on either of my machines. In 10.1.0 or 10.1.3.

I know you have want features such as zoom and dragging of systems and I had planned to include those. But I put things I felt were not essential to editing on the back burner until I got a working editor as I felt you guys wanted something to work with until I got the final one done. The final version will be faster, cleaner, and include many more features. I just thought you guys would want to know that.
Aranor; I tried your app but I got nil object exceptions when it tried to redraw and when it tried to load a plug-in.

NovaMap may not have all the features people want, but at least it does something. Relax and give Thor a break, this is the first version, and an alpha version at that. NovaMap was most likely released because of neccessity, not because it has all the pretty bells and whistles that are yet to be made. Thor made this topic so that he could get some constructive criticism, not so someone could flame his product while advertising their own. If you want to help Thor get this system editor out the door, you should suggest things to be fixed, not constantly compare and insult the app.
