Can anyone tell me why, when I get a paint outfit for a Vell-os or Wraith ship, the colors seem to screw up? They seem to be inverted, and come out really bright. However, when cloaking, on the Vell-os Javelin at least, the ship's color suddenly switches to what it SHOULD look like as it fades. For example, right now I have a green paint outfit on my Javelin. The ship is a painfully bright pale pink when flying around, but when I engage my cloaking device, it turns green and fades. When disengaging the cloak, the green ship fades back in, and then turns hot pink again. W. T. F.

Do Vell-os ships have some pre-existing paint on them? Two layers of paint may not mix well (although I'm not well-versed in how paints work).

I don't believe so. The shäns look the same as they do ingame.

I'm not totally positive myself, but it seems like you put in a color value in HTML format and it adds that color's value to the ship's sprites. I think. It WOULD be interesting to take a ship that works properly with paints, and slap two of them on at once. See if one replaces the other or if the two mix.
The one thing I was considering was that the cloaking device seems to supress engine glows. Maybe the Vellos' specialty engine glows mess up the color.
But then...why isn't is a problem on normal ships...hm.

Nope, not HTML format. The format is, bitwise, 0RRRRRBBBBBGGGGG. To make the conversion to paint color format much easier, go check out (url="http://"http://kevin.sb.org/evnova/")here(/url) and download Nova Paint. It lets you specify color via the apple color picker or via RGB percentages, and will return the paint number.

For the record, it happens to Wraith as well... both are transparent, perhaps that is the link.

I belive Matt Burch confirmed this on the Nova board somewhere. Paint outfits aren't intended for use on translucent ships.

A very nice program, I recomend it.
BTW, how would you explain paint on a mental projection or an alien being anyway? I don't think a wraith would like to have its body covered in a sticky, hardening substance. Nor would a vell-os like a shell (with a hole to get out of) left behind at every port.

Silly, a powerful Vell-os can rearrange the pain atoms and "weave" it into some clothing, then re-weave it back into paint.
PS- That's me COMPLETELY ignoring the fact that you made a very good point.
I'd like to see that, actually...a big Javelin-shaped paint wad comes in and lands, and then the Vell-os punches through the shell and walks out. Sanitation lets out a big ol' collective groan when several Vell-os come in for a landing together.
Paint outfits are mutually exclusive; that is, if you have green paint and you buy purple paint, green paint is deleted and replaced by the purple paint.
