Are you setting the "auto-abort" flag in the initial mission? You probably are, but hey, it's worth checking. 🙂 Other than that, my tired brain can't think of any good reason that it wouldn't work.

I am making a new ship, and the shipyard description doesnt work...

I have made a dësc for it, but I dont know how to link it together with the other resources. Any ideas?

You have to make sure that you have the correct ID# of the pict. that corresponds to the ship you've created. There is a tool which will help you alot. Its EVO calculator or something like that, all you do is type in the ID of the ship and it calculates the ID numbers of other resources that is necessary for the ship resources (i.e. the ID number of the desc resource for shipyard description would be ID 2117 if your ship ID was 172, you catch my drift)

Wait, I have to check if it works... (oh, and this is for nova btw)

and also, how do you make a plugin? I am playing around in the main data files right now (maybe thats not so smart)...

Im trying to use sounds from the original EV and I tryed copy and paste but the sounds just dont play in game... why. Are they different formats? if so what formats?

The shipyard dësc is stored as (ship's resource ID) - 128 + 13000.

Well, over the past few hours I have recently learned that (A) I can't model, (🆒 Strata, as a modeling application, sucks it, and © I hate everything.

2 questions:

Who can give me the name of a decent modeling program that costs anywhere in the range of $-? to $0? Does such a thing exsist? I'd really like a program of unimaginable modeling power that is availiable for free. Yeah that'd be cool. (partial sarcasm)

Also, how the hell do you make textures/apply textures? I guess what I'm trying to say here is I hate textures and I can't make them. What are your methods for creating them? I have Photoshop 6 and yet I have no idea how to make a freakin' texture. Thanks.

This is driving me up the wall, so please, someone help me!

I wanted to create a simple përs, just for some guy to fly around, that sort of thing.

I started by creating a new government type and a new ship type (based on the Zephyr), and then put together the përs resource. The resource ID is 643, giving it an index of 515 (safely after the ATMOS përs resources, to avoid conflict).

To test him, I duped the Kel'ariy s˙st resource and made him 80% likely to appear (using the përs fields). I turned off all other ships, and made the background blue to ensure that I can tell my plug-in is running that system, not the ATMOS files.

The system worked without a hitch, but my guy didn't appear. Still, the blue background looked nice, and really showed off the anti-aliasing of the graphics.

I threw in a few other përs into the system, and tested them. Now I have frandall's ship from hell and some other ATMOS guys zipping about in wraiths, but my guy doesn't appear.

I've tried different resIDs (also changing the system's përs fields to match the new index value) to no avail.

In desperation, I deleted my government and the custom ship. I copied the frandall ship from the ATMOS files (res 283) and renumbered that resource to 643. I changed only the resource name, to allow me to distinguish between 'my' guy and the frandall ship.

Nothing. I still can't see my guy anywhere.

I'm at my wit's end with this. I thought I'd just make a simple plug for fun, and then get started on my 'post-Krypt' plug, but I've been stuck on an apparently simple thing.

Can anyone give me some pointers, or email me a few sample custom 'përs' resources? My email address is gary_patterson@mac.com, but I'm becoming a regular reader of these boards.

Did you create a new pilot file after you added the përs resource? The EV games only show përs ships that were in existence when your pilot file was created; all other përs IDs are marked as 'dead' so that the game doesn't try to create ships that don't exist.

oh... sorry for asking so much, but I am kinda new to EV editing and I need some serious help... I got another question... (I am really serious about this plug, and I WILL finish it :))

where can I download a free/shareware 3D editing application with a tutorial? I dont even know the basics, and therefore I cant even get started with my ship graphics. (guess if I have cool ship ideas...) A push in the right direction would be nice 🙂

Is there anyway to make a wormhole work without landing on it? You know, you just sort-of fly over it and WHAM - you're in another system. That would be neat. That's how lethal stellar work, don't they?? Also, can we apply gravity to a wormhole?

Again, it should work, although given the answer to your first question, it wouldn't do much good.

oh, and is it possible to create cool ships in lightwave? Cus I am downloading it right now 🙂

I am confused beyond all confusion. I think. Where are the actual ship sprites from the game? Like the ones that move around the screen? I can't find them with ResEdit.

check the "nova ships" 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 files...

they are displayed as a single picture, double click it and you will see the ship spinning around in a little black box 🙂
