I asked this question earlier, but I kind of need to know. What do I need to do exactly in order to add new STR#s? I read the response in the EV Bible, yet it's not too clear on it. Anyone have a clearer explanation?

To do this you, all that you need to do is open the desired STR in NovaTools. Next you go down to the bottom of the list of stirngs, and then you click on either the part that says String and the number of it. You then go to the top menus and select create new resource. This will give you a new string field in the STR. All that you have to do now is just type in what you want to, and you are done. I hope that this helps you out.

Yo- in the defcount field, the last # is for the # of dudes in the waves, so for you the defcount field would be: 205 (for 5 dudes in a wave, 20 total) or 204 (for 4 dudes in a wave, 20 total) and so on. hope that helps.

Yo- first, wtf dyu have outfits for your ships? dont need those. second, make sure that the tech levels are equal (in the shďp and spöb resource)- even better, use the specialtech field so only your ships appear. also, sometimes there is a weird bit problem in the shďp resource (at least for me), in the Avaliablilty field, put (!b0) | (b0) so it always appears.... hope that helps (and understandable)

I'm pretty sure that this hasn't been brought up before...

I'm working on a Gundam plugin, and intend to put out a little "teaser" plug hopefully within the next month or so. Anyway, I've figured out how to animate the thing walking, but I want to be able to use the "unfold for firing" feature that the evn bible talks about. I'm not entirely sure about how this is supposed to work. I want to be able to make the robot raise its gun when you press the fire button.

I am creating a plugin that adds new planets and systems, so far I have only created one system w/ one planet. However, this one planetyou can get into, but you cannot leave. What I mean by this is that every time that you try to leave, the game crashes and throws you out to the desktop. I was able to leave the planet the first few times that I landed there, but it has crashed one me ever since. I have tried everything that I could think of, but still no luck. Has this happened to anyone before? If so could someone help me out, PLEASE!!

I solved all my previous problems except the nested ships not returning- thanks everyone.

However, I just bought a new iBook, and now Nova does't work- it crashes just before the main menu screen comes up. None of the usual "out of memory" errors-just a hard crash. I reinstalled off the Ambrosia CD, figuring it was corrupted in the transfer from my old computer; no effect. It used to work fine. The debug log is generated up to:
.....
configuring sprites
initializing player
initializing main screen
opening last pilot file
load pilot data 1
...
load pilot data 9
making alias
dumping pilot log

and ends. I suspect it has something to do with the plug-ins, but removing them has no effect, as with turning off all the options.

I know this is more a question for another board, but if anyone has an idea....

Does anyone know if it is possible to start more than one auto-aborting invis misn apon landing on a planet? It seems from looking through the debug log, that EVN will only start one mission apon landing. I am working on a misn sequence that apon landing on a certain planet, it rewards you, and then, if you have done some other things along the way, it may give you additional credits. The thing is, that say I have 6 different side quests that add to the grand total, well, i have to land 6 different times to get all the rewards(for 6 different misn's to start and abort)

Masamune:I noticed EVN crashing there too. It happened right after i made an empty pilotlog.txt file. I trashed the file and the crashes stopped. It'll also seems to crash if you have any of EVN's resources open in resedit. I have a DP450 btw.

SMC: Thanks for the tip on the crashing.

After a little experimentation, it seems that only one mission gets activated. An easy work-around though is to have the first mission trigger a crön with a 0 day delay/length.

I am having some trouble with resedit/nova tools. The problem occurs when opening or closing resource editing fields. It does not happen all the time, but probably about 90 percent of the time resedit locks up and a restart (of computer) is necessary. I have been editing nova data files. Data file #4 in particular.

If any one has any ideas on what the problem could be please let me know.

Have you allocated more memory to Resedit? It can do screwy things if it runs out of memory.

Well, I recently posted a question about nova's rleD and rle8 files, and no one answered my question, but I found out the answer on my own. I'll post the answer so that anyone else with the same question can find out here.

Nova has several sets of sprites for each ship: the base image, the alternate image, engine glow, running lights, weapon glow, and shield glow images.

The base image is just the ship spinning. Additional frames can be added after this for animating (see the Leviathan's rleD), banking (see the Starbridge, or any other ship that banks' rleD), and unfolding (see the Asteroid Miner's rleD). Only one of these three additional choices can be used at a time. If you want to unfold and animate, you need to put the unfolding animation in the base image, and the portion of the ship to be animated in the alternate image (see the Thunderforge's rleD)

In my case, I wanted to make a robot walk and raise a gun when firing. While I could put the legs on an alternate image, and put the raising gun on the base, it would require that the upper body not be animated. As a good walk cycle requires for the whole body to move, making a raising gun would be impossible. I decided that the walking was more important that the raising of the gun, so (so far as I can tell), the base image will be the robot walking with the gun already raised.

Someone posted a question concerning if it was possible to create a kamikaze launch bay. I couldn't find the subject so Im posting a reply here and hopefully the guy who asked that question may encounter this response.

I had done some experience, most kamikaze launch bays I've seen other people do was simply making a range weapon of some kind like missiles and rockets. I however actually made the weapon a REAL lauch bay weapon, what I did was add a new ship with a new weapon that a blast damage of intense destruction kind of like the mine explosion from ROTUE but I set the ammotype to -999 so the kamikaze fighter would be destroyed when it fired the weapon, and the launch bay to compliment it.

Unlike other kamikaze launch weapons, these ones you actually control like any other escort fighters, instead of launching the fighters like a homing missile looking for its target. It's censored to prevent people from using the MËTA tag in HTML, which can be used to redirect people to a different page.
