I've noticed several unregistered members 'hijacking' topics recently with questions. Now, while obviously it isn't really their fault, I would like to keep existing topics on topic by providing this one for unregistered people to post their questions in until registration is reenabled.

Thank you.
Is there a plugin creation tutorial out there? Or am I just lazy beyond all reconing?

Plugin creation? Yes, no, maybe so. The EV C/O/N Bible is primarily what you need. NovaTools will suffice for your other needs. And stuff. There are not any good full standalone editors. Which I would pay money for, but evidently not. NovaTools are a series of utilities and ResEdit templates which turn Resedit into basically a standalone editor, except that it's not. Self explanatory, essentially.

How would one go about making a total conversion? More specifically, how do you get rid of EV Nova's original ships, systems, and basically all it's resources (I've been using EV Edit until Nova came out, so I'm still getting over some of the differences)

Same as in the other EVs- just make resources that have the same ID as the ones in EV:N, overriding them all. If only shďp resource ID# 1 was taken, then you would make one shďp resource with a ID of 1.

Im ressurecting Mars spöb on the Sol system, I got everything down but one question. What is that stupid blasted ID number which allows the description to show up on the bars dialog box? It's killing me cause I can't find it aaarrrghhh. I know that it's in the 10,000s range. I really appreciate anyone who can give me that answer.

email: prefectural@yahoo.com

This is kind of complicated, so bear with me.

I am trying to make a plugin in which all outfits are availiable at only one system. I managed to do this through creative manipulation of special tech levels--I made duplicates of all the outfits, set their tech levels to like 700, and then set the special tech level of the system in question to 700.

Unfortunately, the outfit graphics did not translate in the process and none of the duplicate outfits have graphics now. Do I have to duplicate a whole new set of outfit graphics as well? It seems like there must be a way to associate outfits with graphics other than the order of the pictures in a ResEdit PICT file.

Please help, and thanks in advance.

spöb ID number - 128 = ID
10000+ID=Bar dësc ID

(oütf/spöb stuff)

Why not just give the spöb a very high tech value, like 700?

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough-

I'm not working with one spöb here. There's multiple stations in this system. I'm trying to make it so that each station has all the outfits of a particular race (auroran, polaran, etc.) and nothing else. The Nova engine dosen't seem to be particularly supportive of this endeavor.

You do have 8 SpecialTech fields...

True, but I'm fairly certain that even the SpecialTech fields don't override ncb protection for outfits. e.g. if you have not done the proper Polaris mission, you won't be able to buy a Polaris cloaking organ, even if a system does have that outfit in its SpecialTech fields. Duplicating the outfits and removing the ncb protection from the duplicates is probably the only way to make all outfits available.

Yes, you have to duplicate the outfit graphics. It seems kind of silly on the face of it, but I think I understand why Burch-sama used that scheme instead of switching to one that seems more efficient. With the present system, if you create a plug that replaces (say) one of the Viper outfits with something else and changes the graphic, then the other instances of the original Viper graphic are safe. OTOH, if all the Viper outfits were referring to the same PICT, then you couldn't change the graphic of just one. So it's all good. 🙂

Would it be possible to make a plugin that let you race your ship against several random AI ships?

For example, you walk into the bar, and the mission dialogue comes up and you join the race. You leave the planet and have to pass through/around/near several checkpoints in sequence, and whichever ship passes through them all first, wins.

I don't think this is possible, but I don't have that much experience with EV/O/N plugins. Is it possible?

I'm pretty sure that's impossible. The AI cannot be programmed to do anything more than fight or run (racing is out of the question). Sorry. Cool idea though 🙂

One more thing-

So as I (vaguely) understand it, the NOVA engine uses the order of graphics in the PICT file to associate graphics to things (oütfs, shďps, etc.). Unfortunately, whenever I try to do this it doesn't work. There's so much extra crap in the shďp resource, for example, that doesn't seem to correspond to a graphic that I don't know how to order the ships or the graphics so that they match.

I just made a ship. I placed it right after the rebel dragon and right before the escape pod in the shďp resource (RID #406). Where do the shipyard pics go? Where do the rlë8 rotating GIF things go? No matter where I put them, they seem to not work.

The location of the rlë* resources is specified in the shän resource. The shän resource for a specific ship has the same ID number as the shďp resource. e.g. Shuttle: shďp 128, shän 128. Thunderforge: shďp 380, shän 380.

The big shipyard PICT is stored as shďp + 20000. Shuttle = shďp 128. Shuttle's pic = PICT 20128.

The little shipyard PICT is stored as shďp -128 + 5000. Shuttle's shipyard pic = PICT 5000.

Targeting PICT is shďp - 128 + 3000.

I hope that helps. 🙂

You think they'll let people like me post up ship graphics in their gallery. I have a UE Battleship pict I sure want to put up for display. But I guess wishful thinking doesn't get you far that much.

Does anyone know why I cannot get a mission to start by putting the line Sxxx into the "onAbortset" field, where xxx is the ID of the mission? Is this a bug in NovaTools, or am I doing something wrong?
