I was just wondering if anyone of you great artists could make a Shield graphic that could be applied to any ship currently avalible. That way anyonw who wanted to take advange of the shield bit in the ship directory could. Just a suggestion but I thought it would be cool to see that in action.

Well, it's probably not possible to do a truly universal sprite for that, simply because the sizes of the ships could be a problem. You know, a viper and a leviathan can't really have the same size or shape shield bubble. It would be possible though to make a few differently sized/shaped sprites that could be applied to all the ships. I'd try it myself, but I think the ATMOS team is already working on a plug to do just that, and I'm a bit busy with some other stuff.

I've been working on a secret project lately, and may end up adding really crappy shield graphics too. They will be crappy because I am no good at computer graphics for that sort of thing (my secret is more of an experiment than a real plug), but I will put it up on the Add-ons page when it is done, and it may therefore include some shields. Anybody else may use what I make. shrug
As for universal, I think it would be impossible, for the reasons stated above. A person may be able to make several different sizes (small, medium, large), which can overlap over several ship sizes. Probably would take quite a few though.

Make them how they're represented in Star Wars. A bubble, a sphere. There's a big sphere, a smaller one, etc.
