What is up with the karma and how do you get good karma out of curiosity

Mr. Newguy,
Check out the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/guidelines.html")Webboard guidelines(/url). The very first topic on that is karma and tells you everything you will need to know about how the actual system works.
As for practical application each moderator works on his/her own system. ArcAngelCounterstrike, the mod of this board, has made it known that he doesn't think much of karma and doesn't think people should put much stock into it(a belief, believe it or not, that I share). This attitude cuts both ways. To gain karma from AAC you will need to do things above and beyond the call of duty(hint: be a productive member of the board and crank out some good plug-ins) that on some other boards might net you a karma point. In the other direction, it usually takes a while for AAC to remove karma from a person. In other words, he's fairly tolerant and willing to warn you until he is just fed up and karma-slaps.
The bottom line is, don't worry about karma. You should not have an attitude that people with high karma know what they are talking about, and those without do not. It is simply a number that is given out by moderators. Just read posts and give them weight by the words written, not by the poster posting the message. If you do this you won't go wrong.

The most interesting part of this is that people are now coming to Stark with PoG un-related questions. You seem to be getting a reputaiton, Mike.
------------------ Consider. If passion rules our reasoning, and we are ruled by logic, we are all simply unwitting slaves to emotion, pretending to be greater than what we truly are.

------------------ My Doctor said I was having too much wine, women, and song - so I gave up singing because 2 out of 3 is not so bad. The (url="http://"http://mywebpage.netscape.com/rduckfwj/pog/mapnotes.html")Kingdom of Garendall(/url) sectional map is easily printed from gif format pages. Find those areas you missed the first time around. You'll want to explore those hidden areas now made accessible with Stark's new plug-in!

You can continue to receive points beyond that, but they won't show up on the web board. The lowest you can go is -10, at which point you are banned from posting to the web boards. Negative karma slowly goes away as you post, although if your posts are unproductive it will, of course, be lowered again.
Karma often comes when you don't expect it, but for anyone who wants their karma to rise, here's a few things that might help, and will at any rate do good things for your reputation on the boards: (mostly from experience, so no guarantees)
Of course, not all karma happens for easily understood reasons. There will always be moderators who give it for reasons known only to themselves. What ever else you do, though, never ask a moderator or administrator to give (or sell) you karma, or you may be unpleasantly surprised. :)**
There you have it. All you ever wanted to know. As this has nothing to do with PoG and the question has been answered, how 'bout an iLock, Toolman?
EDIT: Hot damn. My 2222nd post was actually something helpful.

thanks guys, I'll try to be more productive next time, but I hope AAC likes me
Don't worry, Toolman still loves all of us
I'm running 10.2.1 and I've had absolutely no difficulty with PoG 1.0.2, Trinity, and Stark's Plug-in. In fact, I've been havin ga kick-ass (can I say that) time with the latter's plug-in (sorry to refer to you as the latter, Stark, but that's just how the grammar goes). So if anyone is having problems, I suggest that you make sure all your software is up to date (you gotta go Jag, you gotta go PoG 1.0.2, that's all I'll say to that) and you'll have a great time. Bum (ohhh, what a give away)!
yer pal, ted, the obfascating aardvark
