Worked fine at Dr Ralph's site, so I'm happy.

I had the same problem last night (Friday): It just took forever connecting, and I had to download from Dr's site. Can't say as that I think it bodes well for Nova's release.

Its been a while since my resedit days. Is there a Resedit for OS X? How do you develope plugins for the OS X version of Nova? Do you have to do it in classic mode?
Thanks

ResEdit is replaced by InterfaceBuilder is OS X; those who use OS X will have to run ResEdit in the Classic environment.

I'm glad you are all enjoying the tools. Remember, the NovaTools themselves require ResEdit, which will run in classic mode in OSX. The rest of the tools are FATCarbon/PPC an rrun natively in OS 8/9 (even without carbonlib) an in carbon in OSX.

It now reads: Beta Testers: frandall, pipeline, pstan, Matt, Luke, Tom Woozle and the hardy few on the nova_tools mail list...
on the mac.com version, and the ambrosia copies will update when the opportunity arises.
Sorry about that Tom, the credit line was written a very long time ago, before the nova_tools list was even created. Your help was invaluable.

A question.. is there any way to use the Nova tools without classic? I'm not too fond of it, and I'm also looking for at least a carbonized replacement for ResEdit. Ideas, or something from the doc?

ResEdit is the shell I chose at the time because ATMOS and Matt needed editors beyond TMPLs fast. It is a fairly reliable shell, despite it's quirks and you can easily revert to using TMPLs on a resource type basis if the editors gave any trouble, without slowing down development too much.
I use it in OS9 and OSX, but I know what you mean about not being a fan of classic mode in OSX.
The rest of the tools however are native OSX AND OS8/9 so you shouldn't have any problems with ConText/ResStore EnRLE/DeRLE and so on.
If you need an OSX replacement for ResEdit, consider supporting and encouraging Nicholas Shanks' ResKnife. Hower, at this date NT has not been converted to work in ResKnife.

Thanks! I was looking at ResKnife on the Apple dev website about the same time I posted that, but the URL is broken. Any ideas?
Doesn't Resourcerer do the same thing as ResEdit? It's OS X but it's payware.
Why does NovaTools not work on ships? I only can open it in the hex editor.

It is meant to work on ships. You may have:
Other than that I can't help without a lot more information. Cheers DrR

Resourcerer is $256 and is available from Mathemaesthetics' web site. It has been Carbonized, but not all that well I hear. The author, Doug McKenna, seems to have died or something, as he has not responded to emails in a few months (from me, Uli Kusterer (author of another resource editor called Resurrection), or a few customers whom I've seen complaints from).
A fourth resource editor has been written in REALBasic by Johannes Illenberger: MacResourceDog. This is also still in development, but works under OS X. It's pretty damned nifty if you ask me..

You could try clicking the link in my signature. If you want the source code or the Cocoa version, click the SourceForge logo in the top right corner and follow the instructions. NovaTools will be integrated with the Cocoa version before the Carbon version.

Sorry for hijacking the topic. The registration thing, you know. : )
I'm curious as to whether anyone has begun compiling a database of the resource numbers used by plugins and the Nova scenario? It'd be quite convenient, not to mention reducing the occurrence of conflicts. I seem to recall a similar effort for EV:O plugins... but I could just be imagining it.

Check out 'Duped', it checks for duplicate resources across multiple files. It'll find conflicts in Nova/EVO/EV plugins or anyother set of resource files. DrR

Ahh, right right right. I completely forgot about Duped. BTW, I love the Tools. Fantastic job.
What I really meant, though, is a publicly-accessible database (on a web site, for instance) which is used to track all the resource IDs used by the Nova scenario and all plugins. A submission interface could be used to automate the process, or (in the interest of better security) a shell script which parses ConText files and fills the data into the database automatically.
However it's implemented, such a resource would allow plugin authors to choose their ID numbers with greater confidence by knowing ahead of time which plugins they're going to conflict with.
What can I say? Efficient exchange of information gives me the warm fuzzies.
