Taken directly from Alias|Wavefront's website. As of April 4, Maya will be cheaper than Lightwave

Heh, yes, "cheaper than Lightwave" is not at all the same thing as "cheap".

Strata Studio Base is free. Does that count as cheaper than Lightwave?

Well, Maya is probablly one of the most powerfull 3d applications you can buy. The fact that it just became $5000 cheaper is sunigficant for hobbiest 3d artists. While most of us don't have $2000 to spend on any 3d program we want, this will probablly force down the price of lower end programs like Lightwave which right now can't compete with Maya.

$7000->$2000? That IS a big price drop. And of course there's the Personal Learning Edition, now, too.. which I tried to try, but didn't have enough RAM. Looks like not just any G4 can run everything anymore...
