Music for plugins - licensing

I've had a fair few requests over the last couple of years from people who wanted to use the Frozen Heart music for their plugin.

I've always said 'no' (and I will continue to do so).

However, I'm prepared to come to an agreement about licensing some other music I've done.

You can find the stuff on (url="http://"http://stage.vitaminic.com/stranded")http://stage.vitaminic.com/stranded(/url). All these tracks have vocals on them (which you probably don't want for an EV/O/N track), so I would be offering them without the vocals.

To clarify, I am not offering these on a 'download and use' basis. I'll want to know a bit more about you and about your plugin before I agree.

I won't be asking for money (it's murder trying to collect money internationally anyway), however, I would want to agree some kind of a credit and a link to my site.

Please, please don't email me and say 'I haven't written my plugin yet but it will have 1000 ships, 10,000 worlds, 100,000 Pers, 1,000,000 weaps and will be the best plugin ever, so can I use your music...' You'll need to have something fairly finished and Beta'd, with a release date. Also, I won't be licensing the same track to two different plugins, and final agreement will only be when you're ready to release.

I hope this helps or encourages someone.

Regards

Martin

Firstly, a couple of minor quibbles:
The link's broken because of the ., but that's easily fixable. Also, the page doesn't work very well in browsers other than IE, but it's not your fault.

...
I was getting ready to post something positive about the music, if I liked it, but if I try to actually download a track it gives me an error, saying "The track you requested is not available
This problem depends on Vitaminic."

It's a very good idea, I'd love to listen to that music, and if I ever get around to making my long-planned plugin I'll remember this, but could you please make it work slightly better? (ie, use something not-Vitaminic)

Try the mirror sites, such as (url="http://"http://stage.vitaminic.co.uk/stranded")http://stage.vitaminic.co.uk/stranded(/url)

We downloaded and played a couple of tracks on Friday, so it may just be a busy period.

Thanks for trying it, anyway. I hope that vitaminic works for you sooner or later.

I'm afraid that doesn't work either, and it's not a busyness problem. I'll specify:
The music available in realplayer and (one of them) mp3 formats. First of all all the javascript causes the page to only work in IE, but as an OS X user I've gotten used to that (though I use OmniWeb for everything else). The problem then is twofold: the mp3 link gives the error message I told you about, with "Error Code: M58" and some other stuff, and the realplayer links.. well, the problem is IE is too stupid. It is sent a download from somewhere called "get_file.php", and so thinks it's a php file, not a .ram. Renaming the file to .ram is no good because Windows Media Player (Realplayer isn't out for OS X) will only open RA from a URL on a server, and it too balks at something with the extension ".php". Basically, I can't see any way to get it to work under OS X at all, and as we're all mac people here a lot of us are going to be using that. If someone does manage to find a way that works, please tell me, but I doubt there is one with the way they've got their site set up..

Right. Well, as an OS9 user I'm not really in a position to help you with this. The MP3s should still download and play fine. I don't know about real player because I haven't tried the file.

Itunes ought to be able to cope with the MP3s, and so should quicktime.

I decided to make a more spirited attempt, and found that some of the mp3s do download, it's mostly the one at the top of the page (not the 'full list' page) that doesn't work. I'll actually listen to some now 🙂
