Ship Textures

This is slightly off topic, not being directly related to EV, but here goes anyway.

I am rather new to 3D Modelling and I am attempting to create bunch of ships, and while I have created several quite nice ship models, I'm not really sure on how to make decent textures. All I have is basic metal textures, and they create rather bland-looking ships. My attempt to make a metal-panels texture in Photoshop resulted in a ship which appeared to be covered in shingles .

Is there anyone who 1) Could give me some texturing hints. 2) Knows where I could get some decent textures. or 3) Has some textures they would be willing to donate to a novice?

Well assuming that you might use Infini-D, there is a download on this site in the addons I think, I forgot, where you can download EVO 3D design, it's a download containing all, if not, most of the 3D models that was used to make EVO. And I know that the textures they used in EVO is there too, unless you want to design your own textures instead of using EVO's default.
