This isn't quite EV Related, but I have made a number of EV scenes that use non-EV 3D objects. I have a lot of Strata (s3d) objects...I heard that they are B5 compatible...How can I use these in Bryce 5? If I can't, where can I get some?

You need to save them as .3ds before you can import them into Bryce. To do so you need Strata, of course. I forgot where the option was... But anyway, you open them in Strata and export them to a .3ds file. Then you choose Import in Bryce and it will create a grouped mesh thingy. Download some cool objects from (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com")Strata Café(/url).

IMPORTANT: Note I said save them as "3ds", NOT "s3d". There is a huge difference!

Oops, I meant to hit edit, not reply. Oh well... anyway, I think you do need the full version. Don't know where you can get it. Probably strata.com or something like that.

Only Strata base is available as a free download. However, it will probably export DXF which Bryce can also read.

Werd...well..I had the regular Strata once, then I deleted it. 3Dbase doesn't do converting and stuff.

I've had good luck converting Strata base 3.0.2 files to DXF files and then importing those into Bryce 3D.

I might be wrong, but don't the DXFs come out as 1 object instead of a group? That could be a problem if you're trying to texture them. Also, pretty much everything has better quality than DXFs. But maybe that's just my own experience with them.
DXF groups objects in an odd manner...I was able to take a Poser model, take off a grouped section of her (psychedelic) arms, but nothing else- so nothing posable.
Either way, maybe someone could post Strata for me to DL if they have it. I recall that I had it at one point, Strata, not Strata3Dbase, and it sucked. It was free, I dunno what's up.
Hmmm...since the only .dxf files I'd been loading from Strata into Bryce were single objects, I hadn't noticed that it grouped things. Irritating.
In a related but possibly totally moot point, is there a way to open Max files in Strata base, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy Pro?

Aah. Ok, thanks, all, I got the application. Unfortunately, half of the stuff I can't use because it crashes. oh well, and RAM doesn't help.
