Hi all, if you could tear yourselves away from getting excited about Nova (Iknow, I know...me too) I have a question.
Is there a way to force a pers to appear in a system, so that a pers can be used as part of a mssion string, or am I stuck witht he 5% random chance?
I have a specifc stellar I'd like it to appear in (so that player can finding something odd, aclue to a mystery), but it won't show. Mission bits are definitely right, linksys etc ditto.
Seems a shame if I'm stuck, since the scope when boarding a derelict for finding scary things and generally being mysterious seems much higher than in a bar (if only for variety's sake.
(And if I am stuck, does Nova address this?)
Thanks in advance.

Yes, in short, it can be done.. But not in regular EV. In EVO 1.0.2, there is an 'AlwaysPers' field at the end of s˙st resources. Enter your përs' ID # here. That përs will always appear in that system, unless something else makes it invalid, (Like setting a mission bit at the end/start/whatever of the related mission to that përs.)
Good luck!
Anatole.

...Bah... This has reminded me, I need to memorize what the EV Bible has to say about përs, flët, düde... I'm really not proficient with any of them.

Anatole: Many thanks should have realised that. I'm using EVO 1.0.2 so that's fine (is there a decent pers editor, by the way? It's about the only thing that Mission Computer doesn't do...)
Lequis MX: Know how you feel....
Now all I have to do is get my head around the flags so I can get the mission to kick off when boarding....

Well, there's ResEdit. Another rather sloppy method would be to make it in Schmelta-V, and then convert it to EVO, but that's awkward and slightly messy. Since the përs resource isn't too complicated, I'd recommend just doing it in ResEdit. Maybe David Arthur will continue to add functionality to Mission Computer as time progresses; a good EVO përs editor would be more than welcome.
Anatole: First, your approach worked a treat ta very much. I even sorted the flag out (more by luck than judgment...)
Yes, I'm getting more than familiar with Res Edit. Actually, the only real thing I have a problem with re pers is getting them to call the correct Comms string. I created one for fun and, although the hail quote works correctly, the comm quote is coming in from EVO - but as far as I can see I have done it by the book (aka Bible).
STR 12003 should be called when the pers points to comm string 4, shouldn't it?- assuming that 1 = 12000? Or am I being thick. I confess to not finding the STR patching aspect intuitive.
Hope David Arthur continues with MC - if only to fix a bug that seems to scramble the CompGovt field.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Odd. I usually just copy the whole STR# #7100 over and add the resources I want, so I don't have to deal with string patching, which I hate.

I must admit the thought had occurred to me, but when I did that with message bouys, EVO Developers map couldn't find additional ones properly (I think it must ASSUME you use string patching). Plus I like try to do things 'by the book' before being 'creative'....
I think it may be my learning strategy. Some people need to know 'why' before they can get to 'how'. I usually need to know how before I can start reasoning out 'why'.

Well, message bouys are pretty easy. Just do them in ResEdit's STR# editor and set the syst's Message Bouy normally.
Hmmm.... I think I need a learning strategy... I usually just figure things out on my own

I've already partially implemented përs functionality - it won't be in the next version, as I want to get it out quickly to fix that CompGovt problem you mentioned - that should be up later today - but probably in 1.4.0.
