Pict series to sprites?

Does anyone know of a good program that converts a group of picts (like the output of Mechanisto) into a 6x6 sprite image for ships? Or is it just a bunch of copy, paste, line 'em up in Photoshop?

I use make spďn. It is a simple program that turns those series of shots from mechanisto into sprites. You can get it at the EV addons page as well. It also creates the spďn resource as well which is a great help.

I would use (url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com.au/family/evo_software.html")PICTs2Sprites(/url), if I were you. And if you'd rather just make a movie of the ship rotating and convert that, use (url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com.au/family/evo_software.html")Movies2Sprites.(/url)

If people are keen to try them out, I have new versions that handle 8 and 16 bit sprites. The new p2s also handles folders of any graphic format that QuickTime understands, not just PICTs, and the px2s handles 8 and 16 bit PICS files.

I was saving them for Nova, but they are also useful for EV/O. Oh yeah they run natively in OSX as well.

Anyway, let me know, and I might put them up somewhere for people to try out.

(url="http://"http://www.sutherland-studios.com/~family/sgg.html") w00tWare (/url) : NovaTools are coming.

Aha! p2s works marvelously! Of course, after I figured out that I was trying to use pics2sprites on pict files and downloaded the other version, things went marvelously.

If anyone has some 16 bit tools out there - let me at them! I can render in 8 for now, as that's all EVO supports, but I have a feeling that nova is going to support 16. Tell me where you end up posting them.

Beware 3D graphics - they can render you insane!

I just line them up in photoshop. yes, it's a pain in the @$$ and takes a long time, but it works reliably - i've tried every other sprite-making utility and none of them worked 100%.

I'd like to see them...

I've never used p2s, although Bryce 5 is compatible with it. I happen to like m2s the best, although I think that they only work in 8-bit...However, I do NOT recommend grid-copy-and-paste. I did this for the Zephyr, Asis Cruiser, and a few others. They were both ridiculously large ships that I regret spending time on manual sprites. Go with m2s or p2s...
