ANN: MissionComputer 1.1.1 Now Available

I've now released the version 1.1.1 update to MissionComputer, my scenario editor for EV Override. MissionComputer does not replace traditional plug-in editing tools such as ResEdit, but complements them to provide an easier way of editing missions, descriptions, governments, commodities, and the game's year offset. It also provides an easier way to look up the resource IDs needed when setting up plug-ins.

MissionComputer is available both in a Classic version for Mac OS 9 and earlier, and in a Carbon version designed for Apple's next-generation Mac OS X. The current version of MissionComputer includes full support for the EV Override 1.0.2 file format, and support for Escape Velocity 1.0.5 is planned for future versions. Whether or not MissionComputer will be updated to support the upcoming EV Nova is undecided at this time.

MissionComputer for EV Override version 1.1.1 is now available as freeware from my web site at (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")davidarthur.evula.net(/url). Following is a list of changes in this update:

  • The government editor gives a better description of the 'DoGoodSamaritan' function.

  • The resource list now handles changes to the file that were not made directly more elegantly.

  • The government editor window is now small enough to fit on a 640x480 monitor.

MissionComputer is extremely useful and well-made. However, there is an issue I would like to point out:

(list=1)
(*) In the govt editor, there is no field for the Shoot Penalty, and the Shoot Penalty is instead set to 1 automatically. This is a big problem for those of us who need to make exceptionally cruel governments.

I took out the ShootPenalty field because according to all versions of the EV and Override Bible that I've seen, ShootPenalty is ignored. Taking out the field allowed me to make the government editor fit on a 640x480 monitor.

However, if you need the ShootPenalty for some reason, hold down the option key while opening a gövt resource, and it should be present on the opposite side of the window from the ally and enemy.

Impressive. I've always hated editing dudes in ResEdit, and no one else has ever made a dude editor that I know of.
This is quite a project you have going.
