ANN: MissionComputer 1.1.0 Now Available

I've just posted the new version 1.1.0 of MissionComputer, my recently released resource editor for (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evo/")EV Override(/url). MissionComputer does not replace traditional plug-in editing tools such as ResEdit, but complements them to provide an easier way of editing missions, descriptions, governments, commodities, and the game's year offset. It also provides an easier way to look up the resource IDs needed when setting up plug-ins.

MissionComputer is available both in a Classic version for Mac OS 9 and earlier, and in a Carbon version designed for Apple's next-generation Mac OS X. The current version of MissionComputer includes full support for the EV Override 1.0.2 file format, and support for (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/")Escape Velocity(/url) 1.0.5 is planned for future versions. Whether or not MissionComputer will be updated to support the upcoming EV Nova is undecided at this time.

MissionComputer for EV Override version 1.1.0 is now available as freeware from my web site at (url="http://"http://davidarthur.evula.net/")davidarthur.evula.net(/url). This new version adds a government editor and fixes several bugs from version 1.0.0.

Just got it. Looks good. Thanks.

When can we expect the EV version? πŸ˜„

When I get around to it. It shouldn't be much work, as it's more a matter of taking stuff out than putting it in, but I have a few other projects on the go as well.

I can identify with that.
I posted primarily to force this topic up the list, anyway; from the lack of responses I wondered how many had seen it.

The other thing about making the Escape Velocity version is that I don't want to start on that until I've implemented all the features I plan on having in the short term, because it may be harder to add new features once I've divided it out. The version that supports Escape Velocity will probably be 2.0.

Haven't actually used MissionComputer yet, just played around a little to get the feel of it. Looks really good except for one very annoying "feature." The 'Government' dialoge is too large for my monitor; the bottom third or so is off the screen. Since the dialoge can only be moved by dragging the title bar, there is no way to reposition it to see the bottom - including the 'save' and 'discard changes' buttons. It's a royal pain to have to stop and switch resolution in order to look at one type of resource. If someone were to ask me for a recommendation, I would suggest that the 'Govt' dialog be changed to a horizontal format rather than the narrow vertical form currently used, that way it could fit onto a standard screen.

I guess developers don't realize that some people simply cannot afford 42-inch monitors set to 2560x1920 resolution. πŸ˜„

640x480? I never run at anything less than 800x600, so that's how it happened. I'll see if I can find a way to squeeze the gΓΆvt editor into 640x480 in 1.1.1.

My vision is only corrected to 20/20; higher resolutions make things on the screen too ****ing small πŸ™‚

Just out of curiosity, are you planning on extending MC to work for Nova as well once it is released? It certainly wouldn't hurt... πŸ™‚

I think I remember David saying that he was waiting to see NovaTools (or Nova Tools, however it is spelled) to see if it would be worth it to write a version for Nova. After all, it would kinda be hard to replace the tools that the scenario developers used... πŸ˜‰

EVula pretty much summed it up. I'm waiting until I get a look at NovaTools, to see how much room there is for me to expand on their functionality. If it looks like I'll be able to produce useful functionality that R&R; doesn't have, then I will write MissionComputer for EV Nova.
