The Ares Project: is it still being worked on?

I love Ares, and I love EV. The Ares Project looks really awesome. πŸ†’ But the website hasn't been updated in ages. Is it still being worked on?

It sounds to me like a plug in with Ares Graphics and an Ares like Plot, but has been EVized. Thats what I gather from this. Just a guess though.

Ask and ye shall receive. Hopefully this will enlighten some. And hopefully this UBB code will work for this link. If not I will hunt UBB man down and give him a piece of my friend's skull. My friend has a thick skull mind you.

Sure did. It looks awsome. However, the website needs fixing and updating BADLY. It was trying to look for somthing on my desktop, as nothing was there, it could not load. And the last time it was updated was April.

hmmm....this plug-in looks quite interesting and I would really like to play it when it is finished. One question though, Ares deals with producing ships, controlling them, and taking over planets. The EV, EVO, and EVN engines do not really handle those kind of tasks. Also it appears that there will be difficulty being just a merchant or an independent because in the Ares world there was no such thing. Thats my two cents.

Not really, but it could be made to work. Make a Mission Computer Mission to get a ship... And you could control it with EVN! πŸ™‚

What about flak drones, and stations that are taken over by certain vessels, would you have to dominate them? The strategies and tactics of this plug would differ greatly from that of Ares.

You could be a "Supership" that would dominate the flack drone... You could also dominate planets.

First, I'm not at all affiliated with the Ares Project. As a matter of fact, I didn't even look at the website. That said, my 2 cents...
Rather than trying to replicate the strategy and gameplay of Ares, I believe a good Ares plug would try to capture the character of Ares. EV's engine is great for doing stories which are much more complex and involved then Ares, as it's not primarily a combat engine. I personally have not played Ares much, but from what I could tell there was quite a bit of conflict going on in that universe. It seems that EV could utilize that quite easily to form a complex series of plots and sub-plots. Don't limit yourself to just what's in the game Ares; use your imagination. Anyhow... like I said, I have no clue what I'm talking about. πŸ™‚ This could be exactly what the people running the Ares Project are trying to do. However, if it isn't then I think that I'll have to agree with the objections voiced previously...

Pinky, Are you pondering what I am pondering?
I think so, Brain, but if they called them sad meals, kids wouldn't buy them.

Wouldnt it be cool if Ambrosia integrated the two engines? so you sorta flew around like in EV but zoomed in when an enemy got close. It would enable a better scale system for ships...

Well, I'm sorry to say this but Axis looks about Dead.

In case you don't know, I'm the guy developing StarLance for them, but since NathanLamont was unable to help me, StarLance was cancelled for the Ares Engine.

Does it say that in the site? Nup. Sorry. Ares Project looks sorely dead.

It is sadly the way of things, I'm afraid. Many truly promising plugs have been dropped due to many things, and Ares Project is not the first and won't be the last. If it dies, then it dies though it will be with some sadness. Sort of like Burning Season for Override. It looked promising, but now is dead. Hopefully, Ares Project can have a peaceful fading.

How much was there still to be done? I know I was supposed to do the starmap, but I only got about a third of it done...I could pick it up again if the rest came together...

Let's get this going again!
