Year Offset

How do I change the year offset? I tried to copy/paste the yea® resource from Galaxy's Edge and put it into mine, but it didn't work. GE is for EVO and mine is for EV, but they use the same resources, so I'm confused.

Is there a tool that helps offset the year?

Or can someone please tell me which resources I need so that I can change the year?

You can only change the year offset in EV Override. The original Escape Velocity has a fixed year offset of 250 years. There is nothing you can do to change this, apart from moving your plug-in to EV Override.

Dang. That sucks. I would move it to EVO, but then I'd have to move all of the ships from EV to it. That would take forever - and where I'm stuck, it wouldn't be out for another year! (I would have to move the ships from EV because some of the ships in the Plug are based on ones from EV)

What you could do is to wait until EV Nova is released, and then use R&R; Software's tools to automatically port your plug-in to the EV Nova engine. That would solve your year problem, solve your porting problem, allow your plug-in to be used in native mode on Mac OS X, and give you access to all of EV Nova's new features.

I feel your pain. I originally wanted (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/captainz")my plug(/url) to start in the year 2317, but I had to move the date back, because I would have to import the ships, outfits, governments, stellars, systems, etc, all over to Override, and it just didn't seem worth it.

You know, copy/pasting resources in Res-Edit doesn't take THAT long. In fact, all you really need to do is put the new templates in, and change the file type to an Override plug-in. If you want the other EV ships in it, just copy/paste them from the EV data files.

Actually, with some resources, you have to do a fair bit of editing after the fact in order to make them work properly in EV Override.

Not really. I ported EV to EVO in a night, and I managed it while still talking in #ev3. I didn't have any problems, other than a clut resource issue that I figured out a little later, but that was just with the loading screen.

I've done this as well (porting from EV -> EVO). The EV template seems to be foreward compatible, as all the new EVO resources are tacked onto the end of the EV resources. Though to make everything neat and pretty, I ended up opening every item/thing in ResEdit so that it would resize the resources. That was somewhat annoying, but worth the wait. (If there was an easier way...) That was also necessary so I could add the neat flags like "use afterburners" and "smoke trails". I do look forward to NovaTools, as it should make this process a little cleaner.
