I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good, free/shareware sound editor... Suggestions?

Well, on the high end, DigiDesign was recently giving away ProTools 5.0.1. -- the link is still up at the CNET downloads page; try it (http://download.cnet...-106-2.lst.lst)

Several other sharewares -- Brian's Sound Tool, SoundHack -- will do it, but for my money, try out D-soundPro 4.5.1 Full-function shareware (a delay and a reminder screen), and cheap enough to be well worth registering. Reads all kinds of formats, has the basic filters, and has some of the smoothest reverb and time stretch I've seen on a program that size.

everywhere else, it's --
"Nomuse"

I use SoundEffects for the sounds in my plug-in project, it used to be shareware but I think it was turned into a commercial app sometime. I got it off of an old CodeWarrior CD, but you might be able to find it on the internet somewhere. I personally find SoundHack to be too wierd and esoteric, myself.

Well, I found SoundEffects, which was bought by macromedia and renamed SoundMaker... Do any of those have instrumental effects for planet/ambient/intro music?

I used SoundEffects 0.9.2 for my stuff.

ProTools is an absolutely outstanding program, and, for the price (free) you are getting enormous quality and features - the commercial version begins around the $1000 level. (I personally use Emagic Logic now - not quite as good as commercial ProTools, but still enormous overkill if you're after EV stuff.)

I would heartily recommend you getting the free version of Protools (link in one of the posts above), but you'll also need SoundEffects or its equivalent, because Protools in common with other high end software can't produce the downsampling to make it work in EV/O. Which is a pity really. However, you get much better plugins with Protools than with SoundEffects, so you would be best off beginning in Pro and moving at the end to Sfx.

Hope this helps

Martin
