Hello, Doctor (or Roger),
My question is simple. I'm curious as to how far along the editors are in terms of completeness. How soon after the game is completed do you expect to finish them? Or, will the editors be completed early and released before the game? Thanks for your time as always, sir.

I think that ATMOS is actually using the editors, or a development version of them, to work on the EVN scenario. I could be wrong, of course However, that tells me that they will be ready sometime around Nova's release.

You are correct. ATMOS is using the editors to develop NOVA as we speak.

If you knew that, then why did you ask when they would be finished? (/confused)

I think he means "finished" for public use, polished and free of bugs. The version ATMOS is using is a development build, it is expected that the editors will be released after Nova.

What I want to know is if I can make thingss larger. In my current project, one ship is supposed to have over 300,000 crewmen, but ResEdit only lets me put in about 250,000.Is this fixable or changed in w00tRalphsTools?

As the user with possibly the most experience with using NovaTools, and all the other associated tools that make up w00tRalphTools, I can tell you that they are fully functional, and I believe that only a few minor bugs are what separates it from being ready for release. On when they will be released, I believe that Dr Ralph will not be releasing them until the game itself comes out.

300,000 people on ship... that would be impressive. Can't you just say "this ship has 300,000 people on board" and only have 250,000 in it? The only thing crew controls is the ablity to take over a ship- I think 250,000 would make that hard enough

Or you could say "<This ship name> has over 300,000 crewmen aboard, with over 250,000 enlisted officers, and approximately 50,000 highly-qualified civilians onboard."

Nice to hear from you, Frandall! Thanks for the information. By the way, how many editors are there, exactly? And if there was no system/map/galaxy editor (something I do know! ), how did you put the systems into the game? The nice, old-fashioned way (which was so complicated and hard to understand, in my opinion, I never even attempted it!)?
P.S. Keep up the great work! If I may so ask, (and I hate doing so, because I sound selfish to myself) are there any chances of any movies making it into the game? Or are they still on the "it would be nice, and if we have the time to do it" list?

I could do that, but there are no Civ's on an SSD. Just troopers and the such.

I like to go for realism. THis may be what I end up doing, but the info box and the description wouldn't match. Don't you think someone might notice that?
Methinks that is a restriction caused by the capacity of the data field. It's probably a signed short integer, so your maximum value is 32767. Of course, this may change in Nova.

There are resedit editors for every resource type, so there is a syst editor, but they are 'just' ( :p) visually rearranging the data, and linking the data to various related resources for easier cross-reference. They just make it easier to see what you are doing, rather than scrolling down enormous templates and looking up various flag settings. The resedit editors are the part of the package called 'NovaTools'. There are around another ten editors that can be used to different things, from checking what ncb's are set, and where they are set to printing out resources in such a way that you can edit them in a spreadsheet.

We had all the systems in place long before Nova was even being considered for use as the Ev3 scenario, and yes, we did the old-fashioned way. Dave and I printed out around 400 sheets of paper on which we wrote what we wanted in the important fields for every resource, and then I went through and entered all the data by hand. It only took a few weeks to get it all done. Well, it would have done if we hadn't procrastinated as much as we did...

Yup, still on that list.
