When I try to render a 640x480 anti-aliased picture of a fairly but not extremely detailed ship, mechanisto says there is not enough memory, and to try a smaller rendering size. I have 160 physical RAM with VM up to 180. No other applications running. It works fine, unless I try to render with anti-aliasing. I have 50mb minimum allocated, and 100 preffered, which should be way more than enough. I zapped the PRAM and rebuilt the desktop.
It worked before. What is wrong?

Remember that you are a unique individual - just like everybody else.
You are using Mechanisto. That appears to be the problem In reality, all I can suggest is restarting the computer and then going straight to Mechanisto and trying to render and if it still doesn't work, see if someone will render it for you.

Hey, Mechanisto is a lot better than Strata, at least the Base version. I cant' believe Strata actually calls Strata3DBase 3.5 a full featured modeling program. Puh-lease. That's an insult to any modler with half an ounce of sense.
Though I wouldn't mind your copy of Lightwave, spl_cadet. If you don't need it, my shipping address is...

That's why everyone starts off with 3.0.2. I'm currently using 3.5 pro. As for Lightwave, as soon as I actually start going through the tutorials in the book that I got I should be doing some great looking graphics. And I don't have a hard copy of it anyway. So I can't ship it to you. Didn't pirate it, but my Dad got it for free since he reviews stuff for his Mac User Group.
Couldn't have typed it better myself.
Ares1, try redownloading Mechanisto. There may be an error in the program and the easiest way to correct it is to replace the faulty application with a new one.

agreed, strata base is by no means a modeler. but the renderer is okay. i don't know about the import features but i would believe it is easy to use some other free modeler with strata3d base.

Colours's advice sounds good to me too; cause you're right, there should be plenty of memory. Did you try rendering other scenes that size? Is it a general problem, or specific to that particular model?

Hey, not all of us can afford several thousand dollars for software that is just for a hobby. And not all of us have a dad who can get us free stuff. Mechanisto is all I got. :frown:
Squibix, it seems as though it is a general problem. It worked perfectly fine for a long time, and allofasudden it will not render an image bigger than the smallest default with antialiasing on. I will try replacing the app and restarting...
Alright, I tried replacing the application and it did not work. I will restart, now. Perhaps I should delete some preferences....?
Ok, I found the problem. You see, I had an old copy of mechanisto that I didn't know about, and the memory for it was at 3 megs. When I opened a file it was defaulting to the old application instead of the new one with higher memory. my bad...
