I may be a 3D artist, but I suck when it comes to 2D. I need somone to help me texture this. I've looked all over the net, and cant find anything to suit it! You can see my model (url="http://"http://www.meteorarts.com/gallery/help.jpg")here(/url) . I know that asking for help free hasn't worked on here before, but I'm begging you! PLEASE HELP! The only thing I CAN offer is full recognition for the textures and bump maps. Please please please help... this model has been sitting on my hardrive rotting :frown:

I can help you with plate metal textures . . . they're easy. That is, if you've got a 2D graphics program, such as Colour-it or PhotoShop (PhotoShop LE works, too). Just make a whole bunch of rectangles with different shades of gray in a 256x256 square or something, overlapping. Then, once you think you've done that well enough, save the file as plated-hull.jpg or something and load it in to the 3D modeler as the texture. Once you've done that, then invert the texture, i.e., change each colour to the opposite colour (in Colour-it, just do cmd-i), and save it as a different file. Load this into the 3D modeler and use it as the bump map. Then fiddle around with stuff in the 3D modeler as you like . . .

if you have photoshop, you can just make random noise, and use the... mosaic filter? i think thats it... but yeah, can make a nice plate texture.

You probably looked in the wrong places on the net .Try making search for "Quake Textures" or "Starcraft Textures" (whatever, any other popular games of that kind).The community of the Quake level artists is very generous in placing great textures for free on the net (not like people in starship model making bussines ). So try looking for those. Ofcourse youll need to do some retouch on them but its not like making ones from scratch. Happy hunting!
