Help with Conjuror : earning gold

As many know I am working on a plug-in for conjurors that adds quite a few spells to the game. The plug-in is nearing completion and I'm fleshing out costs, where to get them, etc.

My problem right now is that I've played a Ranger character, and that class can have access to unlimited funds, but I've never played a conjuror except through the testing I've done on this plug-in. And I need to know the financial situation of this class.

Do Conjurors have a cash flow problem? Ie, is it difficult to get gold for this class, at least early on? How about later in the game, are players walking around with oodles of cash or are they still strapped for bucks around level 20?

I want the spells in this game that are for sale to be a challenge, yet not insurmountable nor so difficult that they are discouraging.

Anyhow, if anyone can give me some testimonies from their conjuror characters, I would appreciate it.

Well, as far as I know, all of the weapons and armor that the conjuror can use are fairly cheap, so if you play through a fairly rich area (one where the monsters drop lots of gold) then it's fairly easy to get the best armor and all for the conjuror. In my level 17 character, I have the best armor and weapons for him, and 7000 some odd GP. I would have more, but I've been trying to up his stats with potions from the witch...if I hadn't been getting them, I'd probably have over 200,000 GP. So to put it simply, after you get the best armor and weapons, there is little or no problem with gold. As for early on, I don't really remember all too well. Sorry

I played the Conjuror and basically relied on weapons rather than spells because I would cast 2 or 3 spells, then have to spend GP on mana potions (I wish there was some way to regenerate mana without mana potions). The spells didn't really help until I could afford to have 100 mana potions in my pocket with the most powerful spells, but I still mostly ran around with weapons to do my damage. Having a good spell that used little mana AND cost the same as some really good armor would definitely be something worthwhile. Selling a spell for 5-7000 GP would be reasonable, and maybe selling one for around 500 for the beginners (that uses less mana and does more damage than the fire spittle), kind of like Mehnah's (sp?) gloves for Swordsman. Or how about a 100,000 GP spell for some ultimate damage (like taking out a seagiant in 3 or 4 castings, but used 200 or 300 mana)?

I'd say cash flow is similar to the swordsman at the beginning, but tapers off rapidly as the swordsman can quickly gain armor and vitality. Again, if you could design something that would regenerate mana (a magical stone or necklace or ring) that would really be great. I hate having to pause my combats to load up on mana and choose spells accordingly and drink health potions (constantly). I'm looking forward to your plug-in!

one more thing, how about having an elf or goblin merchant down with the magical herbs, that way you'd have to really work to get there, but then you'd be able to get some really good spells/equipment.

When playing the conjurer character you pick up a lot of weapons you cannot use. I always sell these in either Gwyden Camp or North Gidolan where you get twice as much for them as you would with the town merchants. As has been mentioned, the cost of weapons available to the conjurer is less than equipment for other characters. Fifty magic points cost fifty gold pieces whereas the ratio of health points to gold pieces is higher until you're able to utilize healing potions (80 GP for 80 HP). Money did not seem to be a major problem to midpoint in the game.

Spending 20 GP with Annabelor at the Ookwasp Inn restores all your magic points as well as your health points - a very good investment if you are drained of resources.

At level 13 you should have 121 MP, at level 15 you have 141 MP. My stratagy is to cast spells only when I think the foe cannot be defeated without them.

Edit: Playing tip - Before I meet my first foe, I collect all the gold I can from the screen just south of Fantrima and the screen 1 S and 1 W of that. That's the square that has the thief who stole the Book of Incantations. If you're careful to stay on the west and south side of that square and not encounter the bandits in the northwest area below the river, you can garner about 200 gold pieces before you meet an enemy. Take this gold to the Smithy in Fantrima and buy better equipment before you set out to vanquish the goblins and thieves, you stay healthier and need fewer potions that way. πŸ™‚

My idea is to set ranges of prices for each spell level. Ie, 1st level spells will cost in the neighborhood of $30-200 gold. These are spells brand new conjurors can buy and utilize right away, thus I want them cheap enough for people to be able to use before they are high enough to not need them anymore.

2nd level spells, which aren't useable until 6th level(sticking with how Trinity spells are distributed), start around $200 and end up costing upwards of $500 or so.

3rd level spells, which aren't useable until 12th level(again sticking with how Trinity parses spells), cost around $1000 or more, give or take.

4th level spells, which aren't useable until 18th level(same forumula), cost around $2000 per spell.

5th and 6th level spells are not purchaseable and must be found/quested for and thus do not need pricing.

I don't recall off the top of my head the exact number of spells I've added, but it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 or 18 new spells that range from healing, to offensive, to defensive, to teleportation. I have a large range of 1-6th level spells which hopefully are distributed well enough that people will be able to buy the spells as they attain the levels to use them without too much of a problem.

I'm just hoping to make it so that the conjuror class will want to rely on magic more than they do now(which it sounds like they do so very little).

Your schedule sounds right on, Stark. The pricing is on target and, like everything else of value in life, worth putting a little effort into the acquisition. I, for one, look forward to using spells more. When is the anticipated release date?

However, I should have a new beta going out to testers within a day or so that hopefully should see all the spells working as they are supposed to. It should also place the majority of the spells into the game as they will be placed in the final plug-in, so everything is starting to come together.

I still have a few more things to do before the plug-in is released to the public, but it is definitely getting closer.

I have beaten PoG with a standard character, a swordsman, and a ranger. I am now trying to beat it with a Conjuror. What I did was look 1 south of Fantrima. I tried 1 south, 1 west, but I was killed by a thief so I decided to stay away from there. I killed Goblins 1 north of Fantrima and, as long as I used the block and slash manuever, I killed them easily. I have only killed 16 Goblins so far. I am level 1, and I need 40 more exp for level 2. I have 49 gold and I have gotten all available quests(Warn Gaurds, Find Druid, Prove Valor, Lumberjack Help, Roadkill, and Rescue Manko). I didn't buy any healing stuff or food yet or use the inn. Right now, I have the best boots, belt, weapon(DrivaTan Axe), and sheild. I have full magic points(I think). I have used a Forest Mushroom that I found and my Rye Bread and found 2 Fish Rations(maybe other food too). That is what you should strive for with the Conjurer when you first start out. Now all I need to do is get the Machalan Robe and DrivaTan Helm(I think that is what it is called), and I have the best stuff from Fantrima.

Once you have the best stuff and adequate healing supplies(such as a few poultices or infusions), it will be more than safe to go to the Learning Tree/Rescue Manko/go to Gywden Camp. That is the safe way of doing stuff with the Conjuror. πŸ™‚

Remember, the Conjuror is the weakest class when he first starts out, so you have to take it more slowly with him in the beginning.

Unfortunately, the tent only actually works in a few areas. It doesn't work in areas that had or have monsters in them or towns/cities. It will work 1 south of Fantrima, might work in Dernath or Gwyden Camp, and it also works in the screen with the witch.

You are basically correct. There are four squares around Gewin, the herbalist, where hidden areas exist that can contain foes you cannot see. Because these areas do not show when you tab for the map, you may think you have killed all the beasts in the square and the awareness skill leads you to believe the area is safe, but in trying to set up your tent you get the message - "You do not feel safe while there are dangerous creatures present." These areas are shown on page 4 of the map in the link below in my signature.

Also, in any square which requires more than one entry to complete the square, of course you cannot kill all the creatures in that square. Even though these foes cannot get to you, you're still prevented from getting a rest.

The tent is functional in caves and crypts as well as most of the terrain.
